 Hi  All

I  stripped  down  my  3  Footer  Yesterday  and  i  have  been  wanting  to  put  together  a  simple  scape  which  looks  nice  and  not  too  heavy  on  the  pockets  as  well.  Please  note  that  i  have  used  expenive  equipment  as  i  had  it  already,  But  i  have  mentioned  what  can  be  used  instead  of  that  and  still  keep  the  same  scape.  Hope  this  helps  people  venturing  into  planted  tanks,  who  want  a  good  looking  tank  but  do  not  want  to  blow  a  whole  lot  of  money  for  it.

 So  here  goes

 Tank           :  18x18x15(H)  Inches

Lighting     :  Is  from  a  4  Foot  Industrial  fixture  with  two  40  W  Tubes  that  provides  light  for  2  more  similar  sized  tanks.  Can  be  replaced  with  a  simple  Light  Fixture  with  a  36  Watts  PLL.

Filteration:  Eheim  2217,  This  i  moved  from  the  tank  i  stripped  down,  Can  use  a  650  L/H  HOB  Instead.

Substrate  :  ADA  Branco,  This  again  i  had  lying  around,  Can  be  replaced  with  similar  offwhite  sand.

Hardscape:  Seasoned  Driftwood  and  Rocks  collected  from  near  a  stream  back  in  Managalore

CO2              :  None  as  of  now,  I  plan  to  inject  CO2  soon  to  give  a  growth  boost,  But  not  a  necessity.

Dosing        :  Seachem  Flourish  Potassium  and  once  established  Seachem  Flourish  Nitrogen,  Seachem  Flourish  Phosphorus  and  Seachem  Flourish  Trace  will  be  included  in  very  small  amounts.  This  again  is  not  a  mandate,  One  can  always  go  with  very  small  amount  of  DIY  ferts  once  in  a  week  or  so

Flora            :  Needle  Leaf  Java  Ferns  and  Anubias

Fauna         :  4  Harlequin's  that  i  moved  from  my  old  tank.

Here  is  the  tank  as  of  now

Nice  start.  I  can  imagine  that  it  will  look  super  once  the  fern  settle  in  start  flowing  the  leaves  around   Thumb Up

 Seetha,
Couple  of  ideas:  The  scape  looks  a  bit  too  full  for  such  a  sized  aquarium.  May  be  you  can  try  and  remove  some  needle  fern  from  the  centre  and  put  then  in  the  right  as  well  as  remove  the  two  anubias.  Alternately,  why  not  try  to  have  water  level  only  upto  60%?  The  best  part  of  such  a  scape  (depended  on  ferns  and  anubias)  is  that  they  can  be  changed,  restructured  without  dusturbing  much  of  substrate  or  driftwood.  Cheers  would  follow  the  post

Nice  scape  Seetharam...  Thumb Up  Thumb Up

The  Anubia  on  to  the  right  hand  side,  can  you  hide  the  rizhome  inbetween  the  stones?  The  anubia  on  to  the  left  is  perfect.  Only  the  leaves  are  visible.  It  would  look  better  if  you  do  the  same  to  the  anubia  on  to  the  right  hand  side.  Thumb Up

minimalistic  is  the  way  to  go  i  guess.     i  have  been  trying  to  build  a  bolbitis  only  scape  but  also  at  the  same  time  being  lured  by  the  stem  plans.  so  far  i  am  sticking  to  the  bolbitis  only  scape  but  you  never  know  i  am  end  up  adding  stems.  i  too  found  out  that  in  my  tank  with  only  ferns  the  anubias  looked  out  of  place.  i  am  trying  hard  to  get  them  settle  in  somewhere  but  it  just  doesnot  fits.  waiting  to  see  where  you  manage  it  in  this  fern  dominant  tank.

 regards,
 M.
