I'm an American aquarist with a deep interest in Indian and Southeast Asian fish. Most Indian fish species are particularly rare in America so many of the fish I keep are considered quite uncommon over here. Creating biotope aquaria is my favorite part about the hobby because I love the challenge it creates with your fish and plant choices. Hopefully I can learn a thing or two about Indian native environments so I can recreate them in my tanks. :)
Here's a video of the inhabitants of my 55gal(210L) aquarium -

at one time, when the brits were still here, a third of the fishes in Western aquaria were indian. barbs of all types, especially cherries, panchax, rasboras, gouramis (especially the dwarves), halfbeaks, badis badis, i have seen books written on them published in UK from the 1930s. the first 'tropical fish' that conquered the tanks of the educated classes was from south asia, the paradise fish (macropodus opercularis).
the latest indian fish to make a splash was Ms Kerala, Denisonii. But we have a treasure trove of small ones that are total gems. my favourite? Dario dario ! The jewel in the crown, as India itself was once called.
Hope u can find more gems Ragfish, lovely video. People like you help us Indians appreicate our own land better like little else can!
