 I  have  4  discus  each  of  1.5"  to  2".
 Aquarium  size  :  2ft  X1ftX1ft  BB
 Food:  TB
 Hiding  spaces  :  3
 Light  :  morning  1-2  hrs,  evening  3-4  hrs.

 Q1:
 Whenever  there  is  a  sudden  moment  they  quickly  hide  in  hiding  places  (I  guess  that  normal).
 If  i  remove  the  hiding  places,  they  go  near  the  filter  and  hide.
 But  if  anyone  goes  near  the  tank  slowly,  they  simply  come  closer  and  stair...which  feels  great

 Just  confused,  to  get  rid  of  shyness,  should  i  remove  hiding  places  or  simply  wait  for  more  time?
 if  i  do  remove  hiding  places,  would  it  stress  them  out?

 Also
 Q2  :  What  should  be  light  duration?  as  whenever  the  lights  are  on,  they  hardly  come  out  of  the  hiding  places.  (Even  if  its  a  food  time,  they  don't  come  out)

 For  Q2  :  As  soon  as  you  switch  on  the  lights,  most  of  the  fishes  wont  come  forward  even  though  its  food  time,  so  its  better  you  switch  on  the  lights  a  few  minutes  before  feeding.
 But  its  better  to  hear  from  discus  gurus..
 Wait  till  the  experts  intervene  ..  Drinking

 1.   What  is  the  hiding  place  you  are  using  in  your  tank?  If  it  is  a  driftwood,  place  it  at  the  back  of  the  tank.
 2.   The  tank  size  is  not  at  all  appropriate  for  discus,  go  for  at  least  3ft  or  bigger  with  1.5ft  to  2  ft  height.
 3.   Don't  be  confused,  these  are  normal  unless  they  are  not  sick.  Wait  for  them  to  get  bigger.  all  will  be  ok.  But  get  them  bigger  tank.

 Reduce  the  light  intensity.A  bright  fluorescent  light  just  one  foot  above  the  tank  can  stress  them.
 Get  a  bigger  tank.Remove  hiding  places.Add  a  few  more  discus  if  possible.
 Minimize  sudden  movement  near  the  tank.

 @PRAVU,

 Thats  my  aquarium  with  hiding  places.

 Well,  still  haven't  got  the  satisfactory  answer  for  Q1  :  to  get  rid  of  shyness,  should  i  remove  hiding  places  or  simply  wait  for  more  time?  if  i  do  remove  hiding  places,  would  it  stress  them  out?

 @newbee
 Removal  of  hiding  place  will  stress  the  discus  for  1  or  2  days.
 but  they  will  defenitly  out  of  shyness  with  in  some  days.
 and  that  time  the  stress  will  reduce  .
   Do  remove  the  hiding  place  if  you  are  interesteed.

 Thanks  ratheeshkollam
 I  have  decided  to  try  removing  all  the  hiding  places  and  check  their  behavior.

 remove  hiding  places
 keep  only  filters  and  heater  in  juvy  discus  tank  it  easier  to  clean  and  less  work  for  you
 hidding  places  will  keep  them  hiding  behind  object  always
 for  few  days  they  will  be  in  stress  but  that  will  give  them  opportunity  to  know  the  master  and  once  they  realize  that  there  is  no  threat  they  will  come  to  greet  you  when  ever  you  go  near  the  tank

 If  these  are  your  tank's  hiding  places,  remove  them  ASAP.  In  order  to  get  the  answer  of  your  question  number  1.  You  have  to  increase  your  tank's  size.  Discus  is  a  schooling  fish,  and  love  to  be  in  groups.  It  is  always  suggested  that  you  start  with  at  least  6  or  more  discus  together  in  a  tank  of  at  least  3ft  of  length.  Otherwise  they  will  react  very  quickly  with  sudden  changes  in  front  of  them.  With  larger  number,  they  stay  in  a  group  and  remain  happy.  What  filter  are  you  using?  Regarding  the  light,  I  keep  it  on  for  12-14  hrs  a  day,  but  that  can  vary  from  person  to  person.  Rest  of  the  problems  will  be  automatically  resolved  when  they  get  bigger  in  size.
