Hi!
On the upper right corner of this page is a logo on which there are marine and freshwater fish. What are the freshwater fish depicted there? I've seen them both at Matsyavatar and Mr. Raj's house. They are absolutely stunning!

Thank you for the correction, Retro.. am quite particular about spellings. I've seen rather large ones at Matsyavatar and Mr. Raj's house. Does that make them adults?

Recently Mr. Jaisilan ( Redline Aquarium) had send some 50 of them to Delhi each about 7" ~ 8" long, but unfortunately only 12 survived. The Shop owner had lost them to fin rot desease. All of them were wild caught. |

A few weeks ago, Mr. Rajaram of Matsyavatar announced a fresh stock of Puntius denisonii. However, at that time... I was not interested. I am not able to gather much information about them.

Have had a pair of denisoniis around 6".
They seem to have sudden death!
I had them in my native tank along with P.filamentosus & B.bakeri around a year back. Initially had them in my room for around 6 mnts where theres not foot traffic. But when i shifted to the hall as my display tank, both didn't survive
They're like discus and they flash away and bang on the glass walls when there are vibrations.
With very little foot traffic, good feeding (4-5 times a day) added with live food occationally, good aerated-flowing water at around 26C they thrive, grow and live long.
The best denisoniis are exported to Europe & UK. So if we're lucky to get specimen from the export lot we could have better ones. They're a bit expensive but worth it. |

The reason I asked is that to house a shoal of 6"+ fish you need LARGE tanks...and as Madhu pointed out, they are very skittish. Not fish for the average home aquarium IMO.
BTW, do the 6"+ fish you have seen still have the red stripe?? The fish lose this once they reach sexual maturity... |

Ya Rahul, the red stripe was very prominent. When they were stressed they became pale but always have seen the red stripe. |

Retro.. I have also seen these fish with the red stripe.
Well...there are some fish that need to be seen and appreciated, and not owned. And these fish would fare better with someone who could cater to their every need.
