Been  not  so  much  active  for  some  days  due  to  some  personal  incidents.

In  this  time  from  my  colony  of  cyprichromis  one  female  has  spawned  and  I  have  got  a  set  of  4  babies     Cheering
The  less  number  of  babies  can  be  due  to-
 1.  The  female  has  reached  motherhood  at  a  very  tender  age.
 2.  May  be  in  1st  spawn  the  spawn  size(no.  of  fries)  is  less.

But  good  thing  about  the  small  spawn  size  is  that  the  health  and  size  of  the  fry  are  good.  The  4  fry  are  easily  the  size  of  small  guppies,  and  now  they  are  in  small  1  cubic  feet  tank  staying  all  by  them  selves.

I  started  with  a  1  inch  juveniles  of  around  6,  one  committed  suicide  by  jumping  from  the  tank,  rest  all  are  now  around  2  inches  and  there  are  2  confirmed  males.

So  here  is  some  of  my  experiences  with  them  -

Tank  Size  -   The  bigger  the  better,  as  they  are  one  of  the  fast  movers  and  always  occupy  the  top  level  of  the  tank.  And  in  some  days  they  reach  quite  a  bigger  size  so  its  good  to  provide  them  a  decent  play  ground.
Mine  were  kept  in  a  36*18*18  with  a  800lt/hr  top  filter  and  the  filtration  media  includes  -  sponge  (2  layers),  one  layer  of  bio  ball+ceramic  rings.
And  I  do  50%  water  change  every  week.

Feeding  Regime  -  Always  ready  to  grab  for  food,  I  feed  them  twice  a  day.  Morning  NLS  and  evening  Hikari  Excel  or  Bio  Gold.  And  in  15  days  frozen  food  such  as  frozen  blood  worm  or  artemia  just  for  a  taste  change     Drinking

Tank  Mates  and  Behavior  -  These  might  be  cichlid  but  be  sure  they  are  very  skittish  perhaps  the  most  skittish  cichlid  I  have  kept  till  date.  Tried  acclimatizing  them  to  my  presence  with  the  guidelines  from  Jibran  bhai,  it  was  successful  to  an  extent,  but  still  they  are  skittish.
Its  better  to  keep  not  so  much  aggressive  cichlids  with  them  which  can  bully  them,  perhaps  some  shell  dwellers  are  perfect  to  keep  with  them.  In  my  scenario  I  have  kept  a  group  of  N.Multies  with  them,  and  believe  me  the  multies  make  them  run  for  their  money!!!!
And  if  you  keep  one  more  variety  of  fish  with  the  Cypris  they  become  far  more  adventurous  as  compared  to  when  kept  just  a  group  of  cypris.

Breeding  -  I  don't  have  any  specific  reason  to  point  out  -  that  might  have  triggered  their  breeding,  but  as  they  are  mouth-brooder  so  I  noticed  a  small  bulge  in  the  face  region  of  the  female.  The  bulge  was  there  for  approx  25-30  days  after  which  on  the  last  Tuesday  morning  she  delivered  the  babies.
During  this  time  period  she  didnt  eat  much  and  after  she  released  the  babies  I  have  removed  them  -  I  haven't  noticed  the  multies  or  other  cypris  attacking  the  babies,  but  still  separated  them.

Hope  it  will  help  Cyprichromis  enthusiasts,  any  other  queries  please  feel  free  to  ask  :)
