 Dear  All,

This  Sunday  I’m  going  to  work  upon  my  second  DIY  Project  (though  I’ve  have  not  posted  my  first  DIY)  –  External  Canister  Project.

This  project  would  be  based  upon  Hamza’s  First  CANISTER  Project  (Threaded  End  Cap).

I’m  preparing  this  Canister  filter  for  my  (44”x15”x27”)  Aquarium,  where  my  Flower  Horn  is  residing.

I’ve  decided  to  use  40W  Cooler  Water  Pump  (arrived)  which  has  Capacity  of  2300L/H  (FMax)  and  2.35  Meters  is  H  Max.

This  Pump  has  forced  me  to  use  6”  PVC  Pipe  as  pump  was  not  getting  accommodated  in  4”  PVC  Pipe  (used  by  Hamza).

I’ve  chalked  out  design  and  following  is  the  Part  list  for  Project  –  there  are  certain  items  more  than  those  required,  so  as  to  avoid  last  minute  requirements  (Sunday  is  Holiday  for  Most  of  the  shops).

 Sr Item  Name Size Qty
 1 PVC  Pipe  (Diameter  –  6  Inch”) Length  –  2.5  Ft 1  No
 2 PVC  End  Cap  –  Plain Diameter  –  6  Inch 1  No
 3 PVC  End  Cap  –  Threaded Diameter  –  6  Inch 1  No
4 UPVC  Ball  Valve Diameter  –  ¾  Inch 2  Nos
5 Polymer  Based  Rubber  Pipe Diameter  –  ¾  Inch 10  Ft.
 6 UPVC  Elbow  –  900 Diameter  –  ¾  Inch 5  Nos
 7 UPVC  Elbow  –  450 Diameter  –  ¾  Inch 1  No
8 UPVC  Combined  Female  Adapter Diameter  –  ¾  Inch 3  Nos
9 UPVC  Combination  Male  Threaded  Adaptor Diameter  –  ¾  Inch 4  Nos
 10 Screw-able  Tightening  Clips   Diameter  –  ¾  Inch 4  Nos
11 UPVC  Tee  (Reducing   ¾  Inch  to  ½  Inch) 1  No
 12 UPVC  Pipe Diameter  –  ½   Inch 10  Ft.
 13 UPVC  Pipe Diameter  –  ½   Inch 3  Ft.
 14 UPCV  Cement  (Blue) 50ml
 15 Cooler’s  submersible  water  pump   40  Watt 1  Nos
16 PVC  Bathroom  Drainage  Plates Diameter  –  4~5  Inch 3  Nos
 17 Truck’s  Tyre  Inner  Rubber 18”  x  8” 1  No
18 UPVC  End  Caps Diameter  –  ½   Inch 2  Nos
 19 SOBO  Bio-Filter  Sponge

 Good  luck..  Vishal.
One  doubt  though,  can't  you  mount  the  cooler  pump  out  side  the  filter  housing  (on  top)..  because  if  you  do  that,  you  can  minimize  the  risk  involved  in  taking  out  the  wire  of  the  pump  from  inside  and  reduce  possible  leaking  points..

 Thanx  Nidhi!

It  can  not  be  as  Pump  is  submersible,  hence  required  to  be  under  water  constantly.  For  taking  care  of  leakage  wire  outlet  would  be  closed  using  Silicon  from  inside  and  m-Seal  from  outside.

Good  luck  with  your  project.  Bigger  the  pipe  the  better  as  large  water  volume  in  the  chamber  is  one  of  the  features  of  canister  filter.

I  got  excited  when  I  saw  cooler  pump  as  I  thought  its  some  kind  of  a  chiller  but  then  I  reallized  its  the  pump  from  a  room  cooler   Sad

All  the  best!  i  have  a  partly  done  similar  canister  filter  project  lying..unable  to  getting  around  to  finishing  it..i  used  9"  PVC  pipe  and  similar  cooler  pump..had  leakage  issues  from  the  top  threaded  end  where  the  pump  outlet  and  wire  outlet  was  located  as  pointed  out  by  @Nidhi  ..thats  where  the  project  stopped..seeing  your  project  is  inspiring  me  to  finish  mine  as  well..  Thumb Up
