 Hi,
Recently  i  have  observed  Foam  in  my  Aquarium  after  every  water  change,It  has  not  harmed  the  fishes  in  any  way,What  could  be  the  reason  for  such  change  in  water  quality?Any  suggestions?
For  indicative  purpose  it  looks  like  a  tank  full  of  aggitated  Beer  Very Happy  .
 with  regards
 Shishir  kamat

Sishir  is  the  foam  floating  on  top  of  the  water?  If  that  is  so,  then  there  some  contamination  of  the  water  (sewage?).

If  you  see  bubbles  rising  through  the  water  which  dissipate  at  the  surface  then  it  could  be  air  being  entrained  due  to  hole  somewhere  in  the  pipe  and  the  venturi  effect.

 Hi  shishirkamat,
Some  times  there  can  be  a  oily  layer  formed  on  the  surface  of  the  water  due  to  metabolic  activity  and  also  due  to  by  products  of  the  biological  bacteria,  when  you  combine  this  with  a  powerhead  designed  with  a  venturi  to  blow  air  ,  this  can  form  the  foam,

like  Madan  said  check  your  water,

Is  the  water  smelling  bad  unusually  ?
what  source  of  water  do  you  use  ?
Have  you  tested  you  water  for  ammonia  and  nitrates?

It  seems  to  be  a  water  quality  problem.  If  possible  have  the  water  tested.
If  you  have  a  water  purifier  like  aquaguard,  check  whether  that  water  also  foams.

I  have  heard  that  high  pH  can  also  cause  the  water  to  foam.  (I  don't  know  how  far  this  is  true).  Can  you  test  your  pH  ?

i  have  experienced  same  situation  4  times  in  my  fish  tank.

1.once  there  was  small  bubbles    forming  due  to  tiny  hole  in  my  airtube.(as  Mr.MADAN  Sir  has  notified)
 2.  other  time  it  was  due  to  speed  of  the  filter  the  water  was  so  cycled  it  formed  forthy  like  display.
3.a  pair  of  gourami  fish  was  forming  bubbles  for  hatching  eggs.
4.i  dont  know  the  exact  reason  4th  time  but  the  acidic  level  in  the  water  was  high  (as  been  told  by  my  hobbyist  friends  ).i  just  changed  whole  water
and  did  new  setup.some  were  i  heard  this  occurs  because  of  temp  conditions  but  i  am  not  sure.

Shishir,  what  are  you  feeding  your  fish?  Foaming  at  the  surface  is  usually  indicative  of  high  protien  levels  in  the  tank.

I  am  having  a  slight  foaming  on  the  water  surface  of  my  planted    tank  too.I  was  wondering  if  this  was  because  my  tank  setup  is  just  a  3  days  old  ?I  had  left  the  spray  bar  immersed  in  the  water.Today  i  raised  the  spray  bar  of  the  eheim  above  the  water  level. The  foaming  wasnt  to  b  seen  since  then

 Hi  vinven,
Yes  this  is  because  you  tank  has  been  just  set  up,  I  think  the  foam  may  be  from  too  much  disolved  organic  matter  in  the  water,  Do  more  partial  water  changes,
I  think  you  should  put  an  extra  air  stone  ,  And  raising  the  spray  bar  was  a  good  idea  since  this  will  provide  more  oxygen  for  the  fishes.

Hm,  thought  I'd  said  that  in  my  previous  post...  increased  surface  agitation  will  often  take  care  of  foaming.

Rahul, you  might  be  right.I  am  feeding  pellets  and  homemade  Gell  food  to  my  Goldies,The  gell  food  contains  protein  like  shrimps  which  might  be  the  reason  for  the  foaming
Even  after  water  change  of  80%  and  without  feeding  i  still  get  this  foam, not  sure  why?
