 Hi  All,

Got  some  sole  fishes.  But  looks  like  I  am  having  trouble  feeding  them.  They  are  nocturnal  hunters  and  not  taking  other  foods.  Does  anyone  in  Bangalore  have  any  cheap  shrimps  for  sale  (glass  or  cherry  or  anything).  I  can  buy  around  100  pieces  then.  MY  budget  is  around  500Rs.

 Best,

Don't  think  shrimps  are  a  good  option  although  shrimplets  might  be  consumed.  Try  getting  some  live  worms.  They  should  take  commercial  fish  food  too.

What's  the  setup  they  are  kept  in?

5ft,  non  planted  discuss  tank,  tds  80  ph:7,  weekly  partial  chg  of  water.  Activated  carbon,  seachem  purigen,  seachem  matix  in  filter.  ammonia/nitrite/nitrate  are  in  zero  level.  Nitrate  is  5ppm.

I  have  5five2.5  inches  sole  fishes.  I  find  them  buried  under  the  sand  throughput  the  day.  So  they  don't  get  the  food  at  day  while  feeding  others.  At  night,  when  lights  are  off,  they  come  out.  I  tried  frozen  tubuflex  and  frozen  bloodworms  at  night,  doesn't  loook  like  they  got  them.

Some  hobbyists  suggested,  as  per  their  nature,   live  food  is  preferrable  like  shrimps  or  shrimplets.  hence  looking  for  it.  I  do  not  want  to  introduce  any  live  food  in  the  form  of  worms.  I  have  around  Rs50000  worth  discus  in  my  tank.
If  anyone  with  experience  of  sole  fish  can  suggest  their  feed,  I  will  be  grateful.  Do  not  want  these  beautiful  things  to  die  of  starvation.

 Best,

 Hi  Babu,

The  sole's  are  slow  eaters.  Are  you  in  Blore?  Which  shop  did  you  get  them  from?  They  will  eat  sinking  shrimp/scami  pellets  as  long  as  its  put  in  the  tank  after  lights  out.  They  are  extremely  slow  feeders.  But  you  can  try  Bloodworms  too.

I  am  in  Bangalore  and  got  them  from  Marathalli  (Kundanahalli  shop  grnd  floor).  For  the  past  few  days  I  am  trying  frozen  tubiflex  and  frozen  bloodworms  after  switching  off  lights  at  night.  God  knows  if  they  are  getting  or  not.

 Thanks  for  your  reply,  anyway.

 Best,

so  whats  your  source  of  Frozen  Blood  worms  /  tubifex?.IMO  They  aren't  any  better  than  live  BW  or  tubifex!.

Solefish  like  Nikhil  said  will  scavenge  and  feed  from  the  substrate.  and  they  will  not  be  able  to  compete  with  hungry  discus.  Feed  at  night  ..they  will  do  Ok.

I  hope  you  quarantined  them  well  before  you  put  them  into  your  "expensive"  discus  tank!

I  have  about  40-50  soles  right  now  and  they  have  been  in  quarantine  for  the  past  10  days.  I  am  99%  sure  your  stock  was  from  us,  maybe  indirectly.  So  these  were  eating  Scampi  feed.  They  eat  sinking  Scampi  feed  and  actually  don't  like  to  eat  the  frozen  Artemia.  But  yeah  just  try  and  feed  after  maybe  10-15  mins  of  lights  out  and  flash  a  light  after  10-15mins  of  feeding  them  and  see  if  any  soles  are  around.  Try  and  make  sure  they  have  a  bit  of  fine  sand  as  they  are  susceptible  to  infections  if  they  cannot  cover  themselves  in  a  fine  sandy  substrate.

That's  nice  to  know.  I  have  fine  sand  and  looks  like  they  can  cover  themselves  completely  in  that.  I  will  try  to  follow  directions  for  the  feed.  Will  try  to  leave  something  in  the  sand  as  well  for  scavenging.  I  was  under  the  impression  that  they  were  not  scavengers.  So  was  a  bit  worried.
