Those who want to come with me I'll be at Andheri Station. West. 9 am.
As initiated by Nirant initially to quote
Hey people I visited CIFE and met and spoke to the HOD of Aquaculture a nice chap called Dr Tewari, which is the closest to what we do. Unfortunately as of now it wouldnt make sense visiting CIFE as the breeding projects are on hold due to summer and would commence during the monsoons.
Also, they are experiencing water problems as they are not receiving adequate BMC water and all the borewells supplying ground water on their property have turned hard and brackish (my whole lane is also suffering from this problem I wonder whats up ? )
Basically there are a few glass tanks as well as outdoor cement tanks but all they have are some mollies guppies and goldies in various stages of growth. Nothing really worth checking out. But they do have a pond full of Daphnia (Ryel are you listening ???)
Also when I had visited CIFE back in 2006 just next to the reception they had a room filled floor to ceiling with tanks containing various marine, brackish and freshwater fish species, plants etc. Now this room is just filled with awards and certificates and 3 tanks with a few common plants and fishes.
Dr Tewari mentioned that as usual the government and higher ups were holding them back, etcs the usual state of affairs, this too on top of their water problem.
Hel also mentoned that there is a guy at the old campus down the road that is breeding oscars and has some plants also but there was no point visiting him as he doesnt even share info with his superior Dr Tewari and will not reveal any info.
I told him that unfortunately this is the sad state with this whole hobby and isnt just restricted to him. People with experience and knowledge arent willing to share it but are always ready to misguide people or exploit them commercially
Finally we discussed the possibility of workshops and he said that a 4-5 day workshop is definitely possible on a few available topics and they provide certification for the same incase anyone is interested.
Also, a complete breeding centre for marine ornamental fish is currently under construction and will be up and running in a few months
Anyways guys I think it will be best to postpone the trip to the monsoons so we can get a look at macrobrachium breeding, tetra breeding, and possibly the marine stuff as well.
Also I think maybe one of these days we should do a group visit and see if we can help the staff and the students out as well if we can !!
MAM 4 LYFE HOMIES !!!!!!
After much coordination with them and us hobbyists via a poll we finally fixed the date
What we can expect there at CIFE by Dr V K Tiwari
1) A brief presentation about the institute.
2) A talk about recent advances in fish culture and ornamental fish breeding and
3) A visit to their labs.
See You There
Since I need to submit a list of names to them by max Friday 15th Nov.10am.
The following have confirmed with me
