 Just  wanted  to  document  my  experience  on  making  the  stand  and  light  handing  rod.

 I  cannot  say  this  is  fully  DIY,  because  I  am  not  doing  it  my  self  and  its  not  fully  a  new  idea  by  myself.  Its  just  an  inspiration  from  other  experts  :)

 Making  a  Aquarium  stand  dimension  (24inch  (w),  13inch  (D),  28inch(h))
 Made  with  some  commercial  plywood  (0.75  inch  thick).

 Here  is  a  quick  photo's  of  it.  (unfortunately  did  not  take  pictures  from  the  initial  stage  Sad  )

 Light  Hanging  Rod
 Now  I  want  light  hanging  rod  should  come  from  back  of  the  Stand,  so  that  it  will  not  be  in  middle  of  side  views.
 But  I  do  not  want  to  stick  with  regular  screen  hanging  hallow  rods.  I  want  solid  aluminum  rods,  which  is  very  thinner  compare  to  the  regular  hallow  screen  rods  (think  regular  hallow  screen  rod  is  1  inch  in  diameter).

 After  a  strict  googling,  found  it  in  a  place  near  Amabattur  industrial  estate  (chennai).  you  can  find  many  shops  on  mogappair  road  who  sells  copper,  ss,  aluminum  and  iron  rods.

 Got  one  length  (12  feet)  solid  aluminum  rod  (think  its  half  or  quarter  inch  in  diameter.  Have  to  measure  it).  Got  it  cut  into  two  6  feet  length  in  the  same  shop.
 Reached  home  and  got  it  bend  like  L  shape  near  5feet  at  nearest  Grill/welding  shop.

 Its  time  to  screw  the  Rod  on  the  stand!!

 Junior  helping  me  on  the  markings  Wink

 Drilling  for  a  hole  to  screw.

 Right  after  the  screws  are  in  place..

 With  the  light!  Notice  the  space  in  the  front  of  the  Tank.  Thats  because  to  support  the  Rod  from  bending.

 So  2  problems  here.
 1.  Need  to  move  the  tank  to  the  front  and  make  some  arrangement  in  the  back  to  support  the  rod  for  not  bending.
 2.  The  rod's  are  not  fully  tight  with  the  clamp.  they  are  just  rotating  because  of  some  space  between  the  clamp  and  the  rod.

 Here  are  the  fixes  for  that!!

 Placed  the  paper  in  middle  of  the  rod  and  stand  to  tighten  it  and  that  help!!

 took  a  small  piece  of  plywood  and  arced  it  in  the  front  to  get  the  rod  in  and  this  helped  in  rod  support!

 After  all  these  here  is  the  final  pic!!

 Hope  this  documentation  helps  somebody  Wink

 Hi  Alman,
 The  cabinet  looks  very  nice..  I  would  have  planned  for  a  two  door  instead  of  one.
 Waiting  for  the  hanging  arrangement  update..   Smile

 Lakshmanan,

 I  have  my  doubts  if  0.75  inch  ply  will  take  the  weight  of  the  tank.

 @Thuds..
 Don't  worry  Thuds,  I  have  DIY'd  a  similar  cabinet  from  3/4th  inch  size  plywood  for  a  36X18X18  tank  and  its  very  very  sturdy  ..  Now,  I  feel  I  could  have  done  it  with  just  1/2  an  inch  plywood  easily..

 Thanks  Nidhi  and  radjanair!!!
 Nidhi,  I  was  told  by  the  carpender  that  if  it  was  2  door,  then  I  need  to  keep  handle  to  open  the  door.  And  that  will  be  huge  bonus  for  my  little  one  to  open  and  play  with  it.  So  went  with  this  one  door  and  handleless.

 @thuds,
 As  Nidhi  mentioned  it  can  take  the  weight  of  the  tank.  My  other  readymade  stand  for  this  same  tank  was  half  inch  MDF  sheet.  If  that  can  handle  the  weight  then  this  0.75  inch  plywood  sure  can  handle  even  more  weight!!

 You  never  know  you  just  did  it  perfectly.  Really  inspiration  for  the  people  who  are  gonna  did  this.  With  Commercial  Plywood  you  make  it  in  very  professional  manner.
 The  cabinet  looks  very  nice..  I  would  have  planned  for  a  two  door  instead  of  one.  I  think  two  door  looks  more  gracefull.
