 Friends,

I  plan  to  get  pest  control  done  at  home  to  get  rid  of  all  pests  including  ants  menace.     In  the  mean  while,  I  want  to  ensure  my  aquarium  is  unaffected  during  and  due  to  this  activity.

Request  you  to  share  your  experiences  and  knowledge  so  I  prevent  any  possible  issue  with  tank  due  to  pest  control

 TIA,
 Shyam

Now  a  days  pest  control  treatment  is  quite  safe  and  you  need  not  worry  about  your  tank  being  affected.  Presume  the  tank  is  covered  and  hence  no  problem.  Pest  control  techniques  use  gel  based  compounds  for  cockroaches  and  water  based  spray  for  ants  which  are  sprayed  only  on  windows  and  door  frames.  No  fumigation.

I  have  2  tanks  -  one  5  feet  and  one  2.5  feet  and  never  faced  any  problem.  I  take  annual  contract  from  PCI  and  have  been  doing  the  control  for  more  than  5  years  now.

 Hope  this  helps.

 shyamhegde,

Just  to  ensure  more  safety,  you  can  cover  the  tank  using  the  plastic  foil  and  remove  after  two  to  three  hours  post  the  treatment  completion.  In  this  time  may  be  the  aeration  can  be  kept  on  to  ensure  supply  of  oxygen  for  fishes.

Please  ensure  to  instruct  the  person  not  to  spray  anywhere  near  tank,  especially  above  the  tank  area.  Ensure  the  tank  top  is  covered.

dipenkh,  wads  and  swapnils  for  helpful  input  .   I  will  try  engage  PCI.   Yes  ,  I  plan  to  cover  the  tank  with  plastic  cover  and  a  cloth  to  prevent  any  leak  in  to  tank  by  spray  or  air.  Since  the  motors  will  be  working  during  the  time,  oxygen  exchange  should  not  be  a  problem.

If  its  a  spray.  Turn  off  your  air  pumps,  they  will  suck  in  the  fumes.
