 Hi  All,

Needs  your  suggestions  on  the  Filter  media  that  could  be  used  in  a  canister  filter.

Have  4  trays  which  need  to  be  stocked.

 My  plan
1st  tray  (from  bottom)  Coarse  sponge  filter  follwed  by  medium  filter  sponge
 2nd  tray   --  Fine  sponge
3rd  Tray  --  Bio  balls  or  ceramic  rings
 4th  Tray  --  ???

 Tanks  Specification  4  x  2  x  2  fish  only  tank

 Thanks  in  Advance
 Msnish

Assume  you  are  having  a  SunSun  Canister  with  4  trays.  Water  flow  through  the  media  is  from  bottom  to  top.

Your  1st  and  2nd  tray  are  ok.

 option  1:
3rd  tray  can  be  full  of  ceramic  rings
4th  tray  can  be  full  of  bio  balls

 option  2:
either  of  tray  3  or  tray  4  you  can  have  some  amount  of  carbon  (if  carbon  is  required  for  your  tank  and  stock)

In  addition,  it  is  good  to  keep  single  piece  of  fine  sponge  on  3rd  and  4th  trays  (on  top  of  the  filter  media).  this  is  to  catch  any  other  particles  get  through  the  gaps  from  the  bottom  trays.

 hope  this  helps.

 Regards,
 narayanang76

Use  a  medium  sponge  and  Ceramic  rings  or  clay  balls.  Don't  use  3-4  different  media,  It  really  does  not  matter.  You  need  the  sponge  to  remove  the  debris  and  one  other  type  of  media  to  host  the  bacteria  colonies.  The  online  prices  seem  excessive,  you  will  get  it  for  a  lot  less  at  any  LFS.  Shop  around  and  bargain.  You  don't  need  activated  carbon.

My  suggestion  would  be  One  layer  of  sponge.  in  the  rest  of  the  trays  use  any  media.  Buy  it  in  bulk  and  fill  them  with  it.  Plastic  Bio  balls  are  over  rated,  use  ceramic  rings.
