The  idea  of  a  DIY  from  a  fridge  is  really  cool.  Extending  this  idea,  perhaps  a  2nd  hand  water  cooler  can  be  used.  Has  anyone  tried  this  out/know  someone  who  has?

I  have  a  250  ltrs  tank  and  want  to  do  a  DIY  chiller.  will  be  gratefull  for  any  help  esp.  from  folks  in  Madras.

Murali  from  Chennai  has  a  beautiful  planted  tank.
He  has  rigged  up  a  DIY  chiller  from  an  old  fridge  and  his  plants  are  flourishing.
PC,  I  think  his  DIY  is  worth  a  looksee  if  you  plan  to  go  ahead  with  your  DIY  chiller.

No  idea  on  that.  But  I  know  he  is  a  close  friend  of  Beta  and  Venkat.

Actually  the  Poorman's  reef  inspired  me  to  work  on  this  and  I  have  found  that  the  water  cooler  is  a  better  option  than  a  fridge!
I'm  working  on  a  DIY  chiller  and  have  done  many  meetings  with  the  fridge  and  AC  technicians.  If  I  succeed  in  maintaining  the  water  at  a  specified  temp.  I  will  surely  post  here.

Hey  guys,  got  a  link  of  a  cheaper  (relatively!)  chiller  out  there.
 Here's  the  link:  http://www.coolworksinc.com/iceprobe_aquarium_chiller.htm

I  don't  know  if  they  ship  or  anything....but  does  anyone  import  this  thing  in  India?  Cause  it  would  be  cheaper  than  the  other  chillers,  i  think  its  some  150$  on  that  site.

 Regards,
 amod.

Thats  a  TEC  based  cooler  ...  which  is  not  that  efficient  (see  info  regarding  cooling  capacity  vs  tank  size).

I  already  made  a  chiller  using  4  air  cooled  TEC  modules  and  technically  is  capable  of  650  BTU  of  thermal  exchange.  Downside  is  the  relative  bulk  of  heatsinks  etc.

 Regards
 Soumi
