Does  anyone  know  if  methylene  blue  has  any  harmful  effects  on  inverts(  both  marine  and  freshwater)  ?  The  reason  I  ask  is  because  I  dosed  Meth.  Blue  in  a  bucket  last  week  and  I  use  that  bucket  for  water  changes.  Could  any  residual  amounts  affect  my  f/w  shrimp  or  my  corals  in  any  way?

 Hi  pradeepji,
As  long  as  i  know,  its  absorbed  by  scaleless  fish  such  as  ones  of  the    corydoras  family,  clown  loaches,  modesta  loaches,  and  can  prove  fatal  to  them  if  used  in  strong  concentration.

I  think  maybe  it  has  similar  effect  on  saltwater  inverts,  not  fish,  because  i  do  recall  reading  in  some  sources  about  giving  methylene  blue  dips  before  releasing  saltwater  fish.

But  yes,  do  make  sure  from  fellow  members  too,  cause  i  have  never  used  in  saltwater  yet.
 Regards,
 amod.

Fish  will  tolerate  it  no  problem.  I  am  more  worried  about  the  inverts.  Although  I  have  washed  out  the  bucket,  I  am  worried  about  even  residual  quantities  which  might  end  up  in  the  tank.

Maybe  I  ll  just  toss  a  shrimp  in  the  bucket  and  see  if  it  survives?

 It  will!
Dont  worry  any  residual  amount  of  MB  will  not  be  toxic  unless  you  have  heavy  calcerous  deposits  in  the  bucket  that  have  absorbed  the  MB.

I  have  been  using  Azoo's  MB  even  for  the  reef  tanks  sometimes.  And  they  clearly  say,  its  suited  for  inverts  and  the  reef.

 Pradeep  ,
Yes!!!!  Shrimps  will  hang  out  with  methylene  blue...  So  do  not  use  them  when  these  are  there  in  your  tank...

First  time  I've  heard  of  dosing  into  a  reef  tank.  Does  it  stain  the  LR?

RGG,  Very  careful  about  that,  mate..

I  know  this  reply  is  to  a  one  year  old  thread.  However  it  may  be  easy  to  remove  if  any  residual  quantity  gets  into  your  main  tank.

Add  carbon  to  your  filter  and  it  should  remove  all  kinds  of  chemicals  including  the  one  you  are  worried  about.

I  do  not  have  a  Quarantine  tank  so  usualy  when  i  get  some  new  live  stock  i  give  it  a  quick  dip  Aquapharm  bath  before  adding  them  to  the  main  tank.  Post  which  i  dose  the  main  tank  after  turning  off  the  UV  and  the  carbon  in  small  quantities.  After  1  week  of  that  treatment  i  add  carbon  back  to  my  filter  perform  a  25%  water  change  and  the  water  clears  off  with  the  carbon.

 Hope  this  helps.

Not  really,  as  it  was  dozed  with  the  use  of  a  skimmer.  The  skimmate  was  blue  green.   Smile
