 HI  Santosh,
No  do  not  go  for  foram,  It  shrinks  in  size  and  is  not  of  much  use.  Go  for  plastic  coir  if  you  can  get  hold  of  it.  Else  stick  to  the  filter  media  available  in  LFS.

 Hi  Mitul

By  'Trickle'  do  you  mean  a  'Top  Filter'  (some  call  it  that  way  too).
If  you  are  referring  to  the  kind  that  is  part  of  the  tank  itself,  let  me  know  how  it  was  built  Smile

 sure  why  not..
I  bought  a  bread  box  punched  some  holes  on  the  bottom  put  some  ceramic  rings  and  topped  it  up  with  3  layers  of  foam..  picked  up  a  power  head  got  a  pipe  connected  it  to  the  powerhead  and  the  end  to  the  box  and  voila  !  your  trickle  (top  filter)  is  built..

And  yes  the  top  layer  of  foam  gets  cleaned  or  washed  once  a  week..  Smile

Getting  amazing  results..  will  try  to  post  some  pics  if  i  can..

 Thanks  Mitul  !!
Looking  forward  for  the  pics  Smile

 And  Santosh,
I  have  serious  apprehensions  about  the  DIY  internal  filter.  Your  choice  of  filter  media  should  depend  on  the  flowrate  of  your  Powerhead.  Too  fine  a  media  would  starve  your  powerhead.  A  miscalculation  here  could  be  quite  disastrous!!  An  external  Trickle/Top  filter  that  myself  and  mitul  are  talking  about  should  be  a  lot  easier,  safe  and  reliable.  Think  over  it  Smile

 Hi  Santosh,
try  locating  an  article  by  amitava  sometime  back  on  making  an  internal  DIY  filter  -  it  is  impressive.
I  would  not  advise  you  to  use  foam  as  a  media  instead  try  getting  filter  floss  or  a  filter  mat  -  money  spent  there  will  be  well  worth  it!
