Hello Folks,
Introducing The User Reputation System.
1. INTRODUCTION
First of all what is this? This is a mod for phpbb forum which gives the ability to your users to give reputations (or "thank you"s) to each others. This mod works simple. If you want to thank someone for a post you can do this in two clicks. If you want to tell someone that he is a bad user with a bad behaviour you can do this in two clicks as well. And new users on your forum will know who is a good reputated user, whose words are weighing something, and who is a bad user, whose words and deeds are not recommended to you by the others.
2. SIMPLE EXPLANATION OF THE SYSTEM
Jane has a reputation of 10. Mike — 50. If Jane gives Mike 5 points, Mike will get 5 points. If Mike gives Jane 5 points, Jane will get 5.2 (Mike is more reputated so his givings have more power). But the bottom line of the whole is that each time you give, each time you lose. You lose the same amount as you give (without adding your power). So this is the hard earning reputation system. You can't give reputation if you have -10 points (of course) or less than 1.
If Jane wants to give Mike negative reputation (for example -5), -5 points will be subtracted from Mike's reputation. But if Mike wants to give Jane negative reputation (for example -5), -5.2 points will be subtracted from Mike's reputation (again, more power from more reputated user). And again when you give, you lose.
3. ADVANCED EXPLANATION
For those who wants to know exactly how this system works i'll explain it more deeply. We have 5 stars: and one for the negative reputation: (it doesn't matter how much you have negative reputation, as soon as you move subzero you'll get this red star). Each star assigned in admincp to the exact amount of reputation points. Default values are:
200 100 50 10 1
And we have multiplication constants assigned to each medal:
1.4 1.3 1.2 1.1 1
So, for example, if you have the 3rd medal (points > 50) your constant will be 1.2. Let's take again Mike and Jane but with different initial points.
Mike has 150 points, Jane — 25. Mike gives Jane +5 points. He loses 5 points and receives bonus points for givings (default value is 0.05 for each given point): 0.05 * 5. And Mike's points after the giving will be 145.25 (the system rounds up all the fractions to 1 figure after the decimal point but in the database all is saved in float numbers). So, we'll see Mike's points as 145.3. Jane will get 5 points multiplicated by the Mike's constant 1.3. So, she will have after all 31.5.
Now, let's see if Jane gives Mike +5 points. Mike will get exactly 5 points. Because multiplication constants work only in case when giver has more points than receiver. So, Jane will lose 5 points which she gave and will receive a bonus for givings (0.05 * 5).
Please note that on IAH, we are currently setup to use the Advanced Type of User Reputation System.
I hope people will stop Bumping their Post Counts from now on. If they do, negative marks are always there !

We are getting reps!! A nice change, Ravi , but I am a little vary of rep systems. Its been abused in a number of boards I know. Still this system looks a bit harder to abuse.
Good going though.

The User Reputation system is up and running.
Every member will start off with a certain minimum number of points. This will vary from member to member. We will not reveal How or Why a person has started off with what points he has, as there is no need to know that. These Start up Points are not assigned arbitrarily and reflect your participation on IAH so far.
You may be starting off with + or Zero points. The moment you move up above Zero you can start awarding points to others.
Do remember we are monitoring the system very closely, and if a cartel is formed where by a bunch of guys go around awarding points to each other, or to the same person, repeatedly, rest assured there are enough controls to keep these cartels at sub-zero for ever.
You may award a Maximum of +3 or -3 points to a user, the system works from there on as per the Introduction to the Reputation System posted in this thread.

BTW before someone starts bashing this system :
I was discussing with Ravi, to go about automatic negative points for posts in the Buy/Sell/Exchange and LFS announcements.
That way people who do not participate and share their knowledge in the discussions on IAH, but simply, blindly log in to use the Buy/Sell/Exchange and LFS Announcements Forum AND people who post " PM me the Price, I've PMed You, Check your PM" etc will automatically get negative points for each post.
It will not be a huge deduction if you participate on IAH regularly and use the above two forums once in a while, it will not be felt at all. If not, the person will be in the negative forever. Ofcourse we are not going to reveal how many points will be deducted for each post. It's better kept that way.
Some guys thank your stars that this will not be with retrospective effect!
BTW some more needs to be done to the existing system and then
Ravi has to reprogram, for the above.
Please note that the User Reputation System is not about how Knowledgeable/Experienced/Educated you are in the Whole Wide World outside, it is only and all about your participation and contribution within the IAH Community.
I have drawn up some more ideas from the thread I started a while ago, but then a 24 hrs day will be too little for Ravi to fix all of that soon. . All of these originated from members responses and it is not something the Admins have introduced on their own. We are basically trying to make IAH as the members want it to be. Ravi does all the legwork!
If this final outcome can be integrated as a Voting System for the Photo Competition then well and good, We'll also use it as a Seller Rating System, but I don't think it is possible.
We'll need a different set of flexibles for that.
As Ravi mentioned during Aquatika, the Gallery will be integrated with IAH, no time frame.
All times are UTC + 5.5 Hours Goto page 1, 2, 3, 4Next
