 Hi  guys,
   Â   Â   Â   Â   Â   Â I  need  suggestions  on  stocking  84G  (5'  *  1.5'  *  1.5').  Inmates  are  a  9"  Oscar,  a  4"  pair  of  Silver  Dollars,  a  3"  pair  of  Golden  Saum  (Which  i'd  happily  assumed  to  be  Green  Terrors  :-)  ,  until  ofcourse,  i  went  through  a  recent  post  on  IAH)

 Tank  is  bare  bottom  with  very  a  few  large  rocks  for  hiding  spaces.  The  oscar  completely  ignores  the  other  fish.

 Please  suggest  wht  other  fish  I  can  add  to  the  existing  setup..

 You  can  go  for  clown  loaches,  birchers,  gars,  plecos,  tin  foil  barbs,  iridescent  sharks(commonly  known  as  tiger  sharks),  large  bala  sharks,  shovel  nose  catfishes,  etc.  Adding  more  cichlids  can  cause  territorial  disputes,  if  the  tank  was  even  larger  then  you  could  have  considered  adding  cichlids  like  severums,  salvinis,  red  devil,  etc.  For  present  tank  you  can  also  add  convict  cichlid(best  is  go  for  a  male  or  a  female  or  else  they  breed  a  lot  causing  problems  for  u  to  handle  the  situation),  they  are  quick,  nippy,  notorious,  can  do  well  if  given  ample  of  space  to  hide.
 All  the  fishes  mentioned  at  the  beginning  are  compatible  with  oscars,  you  can  try  any  of  those  only  if  they  are  more  than  half  the  size  of  oscar.
 Oscars  generally  dont  eat/sometimes  dont  even  bother  tankmates  if  they  are  fed  well,  once  i  was  surprised  to  see  a  4"  oscar  munching  a  3"  rainbow  shark  in  LFS,  we  know  well  how  sparingly  they  feed  fishes  there.

 Regards
 Hamza

 Vikram,
   I  would  live  with  an  oscar  and  northing  else.  Due  to  territorial  nature  once  they  grow  big  they  would  kill  every  thing  that  comes  their  way.  Since  you  have  only  one  oscar.  Just  allow  the  Golden  saum  pair   and  remove  the  silver  dollers  too...  Even  they  would  disapper  once  oscar  settles  down.

 The  oscars  been  in  the  tank  with  the  Silver  Dollars  for  7  months..  (oscar  was  abt  3+  Inch  then)..  It  does  seem  to  bother  any  other  fish..  I  was  just  thinking  if  i  could  add  a  RED  DEVIL  ..  also,  can  anyone  plz  suggest  how  many  more  fish  I  can  add  to  the  tank  (84  G,  BB)  if  i  go  for  larger  fish  like  Red  Devil*  or  Bala  Sharks?   and  How  about  Rainbow  Sharks?

 Yo  Vikram,
 I  told  you  that  we  can  only  have  large  cichlids  with  oscan  only  when  we  have  a  large  tank(atleast  more  than  100  gallon),  You  can  go  for  Bala  sharks  if  they  are  about  6-7"  and  unfortunately  you  wont  find  them  readily  available,  Go  for  bichirs(commonly  called  as  crocodile  fish  here)  or  gars  that  too  about  6-8"  they  are  not  very  commonly  seen  here,  but  are  good  additions  to  an  oscar  tank.

 Your  oscar  is  ignoring  these  fishes  as  it  has  grown  up  with  them.
 Any  new  entrant  will  be  bullied.
 Pls  take  care.

 They  are  schoolers,  but  a  school  of  them  (typically  6  in  nos)  requires  a  farily  large  tank,  You  can  imagine  the  size  of  tank  required  by  a  school  of  6  one  footer  fishes.  They  are  known  to  reach  size  over  a  feet  long(very,  very  rare  in  hobby  to  get  that  size),  I  ve  seen  a  13"  specimen  living  with  an  arowana,  it  was  very  the  prettiest  cyprinids  that  I've  ever  seen.
 You  should  have  atleast  have  two  of  them,  so  go  for  two.  These  are  very  timid  (they'll  jump  out  if  scared)and  challenging(in  terms  of  temperature  and  water  quality)  fish  to  keep.

 The  oscar  grew  up  with  only  with  the  Silver  Dollars..  The  Gold  Saums  were  introduced  only  last  Saturday..  and  the  Oscar  did  not  as  much  lift  a  little  finger  (  or  fin)  when  it  saw  the  new  company   Smile  ..  earlier,  i  tried  to  introduce  a  new  oscar  which  got  bullied  and  was  return  before  any  serious  damage  happened.

 I'm  guessing  mine  wont  charge  at  the  others  as  long  as  they  Look  different..  I  may  be  wrong,  though!

 i  would  say  you  add  a  gar.  they  are  stunning  when  they  hunt  their  prey.  or  you  could  maybe  add  some  predatory  eels.

 Never  Even  Think  about  adding  red  devil   Thumb Down  ,  that  could  be  your  worst  nightmare  ,  even  in  smaller  stages  they  are  very  aggressive  ,  i  had  a  4"  red  devil  with  two   7"  oscars  ,  they  both  got  bullied  by  the  red  devil  ,  the  worst  thing  was  he  scares  them  both  at  the  same  time  .   i  had  to  sell  it  because  of  this  .  oscars  dont  eat  or  chase  any  fish  that  doesn't  fit  in  their  mouth  ,  So  either  go  for  fast  cichlids  ,  Like  convicts  and  jewel  fish  .  or  better  go  for  plecos  or  catfishes   Thumb Up

 Gars.........................????   Surprised

 They  grow  unbelievably  faster  than  any  other  fish  in  your  tank,  might  be  even  your  tank  will  not  be  sufficient..

 Gars  really  dont  seem  to  be  the  option  ..  they  seem  to  grow  too  large..  and  i'm  guessing  that  they'll  harm  my  Silver  Dollars  (?)..  all  the  internet  sites  suggest  JackDempseys,  tinfoils  and  Bala  sharks..  Red  Devil,  like  Hamza  said,  seems  to  be  out  of  question..  too  much  of  a  risk...

 thanks  to  all  for  the  info'

 @Hamza
 Most  of  the  fish  you  seem  to  have  suggested  will  ooutgrow  this  tank...
 @vikram
 Red  devil  will  kill  the  oscar  off  in  no  time..i  would  suggest  that  you   either  get  yourself  a  bigger  tank  and  shift  this  oscar  in  with  another  3  oscars  of  different  strains  or  then  let  your  tank  run  as  it  is...why  fix  it  when  its  not  broken  right?  Thumb Up
