 Hello  Friends,

This  might  be  a  often  asked  and  probably  a  really  very  stupid  question:

Has  anyone  tried  planting  bamboo  shoots  (the  feng-shui  lucky  bamboo  variety)  in  an  aquarium?   I  know  the  bamboo  is  not  an  aquatic  plant;  nevertheless  I  have  seen  a  store  keeping  (submerged)  a  few  in  their  aquaria.

As  far  as  I  know  they  cant  adapt  to  completely  submerged  conditions  and  storekeepers  have  a  lot  of  it,  they  dont  mind  killing  one  or  two  stems.  You  can  try  them  in  paludariums,  immersing  only  the  bottom  part  of  the  bamboos.

As  far  as  I  have  heard,  the  bamboo  will  rot  in  the  aquarium  and  will  atmost  be   a  temporary  aquascaping  solution.  So  not  a  good  option  IMO.

I  have  seen  a  betta  tank  with  bamboos  in  it  on  youtube.  Dunno  how  long  it  lasted.  The  whole  oriental  'Buddha'  theme  was  implemented.

I  read  on  some  other  forum  that  the  skin  of  bamboo  shoots  can  be  allergic  to  fish  if  they  chew  or  bite  on  it.  I  couldn't  find  anything  to  support  this  on  the  net  though.  But  I've  seen  some  ppl  use  bamboo  in  their  tanks  n  if  placed  well.,  can  add  a  real  cool  look  to  the  aquascape.

 Dear  All
While  going  through  the  topic  I  remember  that  using  bamboo  in  aquarium  tanks  is  very  common  in  Japan  and  far  east.  See  the  following  links:::

 http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/spinelli/autumn_japan.html

You  can  also  please  your  eyes  to  go  through  the  other  tanks
 Regards
 Kaushik
