Hi  I  have  a  piranha  Setup  and  introduced  a  few  plants  like  Amazon  sword  and  few  stems  of  floaters.Would  love  to  introduce  Â java  moss  or  anyother  carpet  plant  on  to  the  drift  wood  only.I  think  i  have  the  lighting  for  this  setup  2  T8's  MOZOO  Chilly  Red  Tube.  I  wanted  to  know  what  fertilizer  to  use  and  do  i  need  to  add  a  co2  setup.Preferrably  want  to  do  it  without  the  setup  cos  i  dont  plan  on  a  complete  planted  aquaria.it  just  to  make  the  fish  more  comfortable.

Fertilizers  i  checked  from  petsomania  was  Flourish  Excel  -  SeaChem  USA  and  from  aquaspot  india  was  Aquatilizer  250.PLs  suggest  me  do  i  need  to  buy  these  or  any  other  fertilizer?

 Hi  aav16

The  topic  you  have  asked  is  very  vast  and  there  is  a  lot  that  you  will  need  to  read  up  on.
Do  read  previous  threads  on  planted  tank  setups.
Artical  by  Mr  Trevor  "  Kick  Start  your  planted  aquarium  "  is  easily  the  best  thing  for  you.
Planted  tanks  need  a  lot  of  parameters  that  need  to  be  taken  into  consideration.

 Please  Post  the  following  details

 latrite  you  are  using
 substrate
Lighting  you  have  mentioned,  the  MOZOO  Chilly  Red  Tube  will  not  help  the  plants  in  any  way.
 Filtration

Adding  C02  or  not  depends  on  the  type  of  set  up  you  are  planning.
For  the  plants  you  have  mentioned  you  will  need  C02  for  them  to  grow  well.

With  this  info  we  could  help  you  better.

 Hi  Avi,  Well...

As  you  said  that  you  want  to  have  few  plants  on  driftwood  only  then  only  liquid  fertilizers  will  do  the  job.  Thumb Up

Flourish  Excel  is  not  a  fertilizer!!

It  is  supposed  to  be  a  source  of  carbon,  an  alternative  to  adding  CO2  to  the  aquarium.

You  need  to  be  dosing  the  entire  line  of  Flourish  products  to  get  N,P,K  (macro)  and  Flourish  Trace  for  micro  nutrients.

 this  is  seachem's  recomended  dosage
 http://www.seachem.com/support/PlantChart.pdf

Aquatilizer  claims  to  have  all  of  these  in  one  bottle  but  this  relies  on  you  dosing  CO2.

You  need  to  buy  both  if  you  do  not  plan  to  have  CO2  added  to  your  aquarium.  By  Aquatilizer  if  you  are  adding  CO2.

 Good  luck   Thumb Up

I  use  PMDD  daily  before  lights  out
Combo  of  Microsol  B  and  Epsom  Salt

 and

 Potassium  Nitrate  1ppm
 Potasium  Sulphate  3ppm  and
Potassium  di  Hydrogen  Phosphate  1/10  th  of  nitrate.

I  use  this  for  all  my  tanks  planted  and  bare  bottom  with  plants  on  wood

 Rgds
 Mayur

A  lot  depends  on  what  you  are  feeding  your  fish.  Fish  poop  is  rich  in  nutrients  enough  to  take  care  of  a  lightly  planted  tank.  In  my  opinion,  you  need  not  dose  your  tank  since  you  have  easy  growing  plants.  Just  make  sure  you  have  the  right  kind  of  substrate  and  the  right  kind  of  lighting.

Thanks  mayur,  but  how  do  i  prepare  the  PMDD?  i'll  get  all  the  nutrients  Read  Mr  Madan's  post  and  tried  calculating   via  Chuck's  calculator.can't  seem  to  understand  how  to  do  it.i'll  get  microsol  -  b,KNO3  and  K2SO4,Should  i  add  epsom  salt  to  this  mix?PLs  help  me  out  in  preparing  this  mixture.I  go  the  Sea   chem  Flourish  excel  since  i  wont  be  using  CO2  for  my  tank.May  think  of  one  after  sometime.
