I  got  a  flowerhorn  a  week  back  and  put  him  in  quarantine.  he  was  OK  till  sunday  afternoon,  in  the  evening  he  started  lying  down  on  his  side.  he  was  a  bit  better  on  monday  evening  but  by  today  11  am  he  died  RIP.

Used  to  do  daily  waterchanges  50%.  he  was  the  only  inhabitant.  picture  is  attached  can  anyone  tell  me  what  just  happened  and  how  to  prevent  the  same.  the  white  stuff  appeared  today  morning.  i  did  an  extra  WC  and  added  some  "aqua  plus  anti  white  spot  and  anti  fungal"  medicine.

Sorry  for  your  loss.  Why  the  daily  water  change?  Especially  for  a  flower  horn  which  was  okay.  When  it  rains  which  it  did  the  water  supply  authorities  dump  Chlorine.  Could  have  been  an  excess.  What  is  that  large  sea  shell  doing  in  your  tank?

 Hi  preeths,
wasn't  this  the  Fh  which  you  kept  in  a  bowl?  It  could  have  died  due  to  ammonia(?)  poisoning,  since  a  bowl  is  a  very  small  container,  it  is  subject  to  larger  fluctuations  in  water  quality  and  temperature.

I  think  you  had  dropped  in  an  airstone,  so  that  sort  of  leaves  out  problems  of  lack  of  oxygen.  Also,  was  water  in  the  bowl  aged  or  cycled?  Water,  fresh  from  the  tap  can  affect  your  fish  (even  if  it  is  an  FH).

Further,  a  bowl  severely  restricts  a  fish's  movement  especially  a  fish  like  an  FH...you  could  have  used   a  tub...
Did  you  keep  it  in  a  bowl?

Anyway  no  use  crying  over  spilt  milk.   Cheer Up   Let  the  fish  RIP...   Sad

 ...Karthick

Sad  Sad  A  splendid  fish  though.

So  I  gather  you  had  a  Flowerhorn  in  a  quarentine  tank  which  was  a  bowl?  What  size  tank  did  you  have  and  what  filter  did  it  have?  Also  what  was  the  size  of  the  fish?

It  looks  like  the  fish  was  a  bit  too  stressed  due  to  ammonia  &/or  nitrite  and  its  immune  system  gave  away.  Medication  will  not  help  in  this  case  but  certainly  a  mistake  that  can  be  avoided  in  the  future.

If  you  dont  have  a  proper  quarentine  tank  then  DONT  try  to  quarentine  fish  as  you  will  subject  the  fish  to  immense  stress  and  it  is  unlikely  it  will  survive  that.  Personally,  I  lost  the  will  to  quarentine  when  I  had  a  camallanus  infestation  years  ago.  It  is  about  what  you  believe  Smile

 Preeths,
The  question  you  have  to  ask  is  will  not  buying  fish  for  a  very  long  time  sustain?  I  guess  the  impulse  to  buy  one  during  this  long  period  may  get  out  of  control.

The  solution  is  not  to  run  away  from  it  but  to  face  it.  When  you  see  a  fish,  you  must  know  if  you  have  the  means  to  cater  for  it?  If  any  doubt,  dont  risk  it  as  you  will  eventually  end  up  killing  it  and  waste  your  money  as  well..  rather  spend  that  money  on  something  that  you  can  cater  for  Smile

Just  my  2  pence  of  advice  Smile
