Heiko  refering  to  the  Meruvambayi  River  biotope  has  some  interesting  comments  to  say  ....
"Puntius  challakudiensis,  which  has  mistakenly  been  sold  in  the  aquarium  trade  as  Puntius  denisonii  in  recent  years..."  &  some  new  undescribed  Barilius  and  a  Danio  resembling  Danio  rerio  ...

 Hi  Kaushik

Yes  the  link  refers  to  the  PKF  website  only.
This  he  had  told  me  as  well  when  he  was  here  last  year  in  Feb  2008..
This  Video  explains  it  more  clearly  about  the  Biotope  of  these  Native  Fishes  ....

 Regards

For  the  moment  you  may  refer  to  these  pictures:-

er,  P.  chalakkudiensis  was  sold  many  years  ago  as  P.  denisoni.  It  then  disappeared  from  the  trade  before  reappearing  last  year,  under  the  correct  name.

Shankar  the  P  cupanus  is  sure  stunning.  I've  had  them  in  my  tank  reproducing  a  few  few  years  ago,  I  never  once  saw  that  coloration,  the  male  would  get  on  a  purplish  hue  and  a  Red  anal  fin  that's  about  it.

This  is  a  stunning  color  variation.  I  hope  saturation  has  not  been  tweaked  here.

That  is  why  i  was  asking  if  you  guys  are  going  to  "Challakudy  River"  and  the  near  about  areas  ?
As  much  as  I  remember  Heiko  had  told  me  exactly  the  same  thing  he  says  in  the  PKF  interview  and  he  also  mentioned  that  some  fishes  he  had  collected  had  very  remarkable  colours,  I  will  request  him  to  send  me  some  pictures  of  the  fishes  he  had  collected  while  in  India

Please  plan  a  trip  around  that  area  if  you  guys  can...

I  dont  know  how  far  is  this  place  Ariyangavu  (  near  Achankovil  )  from  Challakudi.  I  got  to  see  some  brick  red  Aplocheilus  sp,  probably  lineatus  males  and  surely  some  undescribed  Puntius.  It  would  be  worth  a  place  to  fish,  just  after  the  rains.

Sujoy,  while  you  are  at  it,  could  you  also  ask  Herr.  Bleher  for  the  geographic  coordinates  to  this  Meruvambayi  river?  Or  the  name  of  the  nearest  town?

The  reason  I  ask  is  because  the  place  I  know  of  with  that  name  is  in  Kannur,  somewhat  removed  from  the  Chalakkudy  river.

If  I  am  not  mistaken..this  should  be  near  "THRISUR"...as  I  was  in  Chalakkudy  religious  center  some  years  back  and  some  of  the  guys  said  there  was  some  river  nearby  with  coloured  fishes.

 And  hope  this  is  one....
