I have two baby discus, less than 2 inches body size, blue in colour. No lines or dots. From time to time, they both change from being light aquamarine blue to very dark blue, nearly black. Why is that? Is it normal, or this reflects their state of mind like distress or water condition?

Discus normally turn dark if they are stressed. By your description your discus are Blue Diamonds...so you won't see stress bars if they are stressed, just the darkening of color. What conditions are they kept in? That can help us give you more information.
I have generally noted the colors of my discus brighten when they are feeling aggressive and chasing eachother or just after a water change. They darken in the absence of light for a long time.

they may be in a stress
just check the ph & nitrate level of your tank
and one thing, dont strike on the glass of the tank usually done by small children..this kind of action make discus afraid.
best of luck
