one of my adult ocean blue discus has got a skin infection that looks like a burn mark running on both sides. On close examination i can see some white fuzzy stuff falling from the rash portion. He certainly does not look normal. His clean looks have gone and shows dark distress looks. His fins are not clamped and there is movement, but the movements are not too normal. Breathing is normal.
This fish was a part of adult discus group that was moved from the primary tank to accomodate a breeding pair. This fish was active when in the primary tank and was eating the eggs. I moved him along to another tank with juvenilles and he's been there for the last three weeks. This new tank was certainly overcrowded with about 12 discus (tank size 3'x1.5'x1.5'). I ensured a canister filter was running alongwith the sponge filter and daily water changes were made. I noticed this problem day before yesterday and i moved him back to the old tank. In order the egg laying pair do not bully him i also added another adult alongside.
Started Dosing melafix for the last two days with major water changes. Today i see the rash is better and does not look too red as it was two days back. But my new concern is all these four adult discus are not eating anything since he was introduced. I can see fuzzy scales still falling and lying on the bottom.
All fishes are fed BHM. Is this a fungal infection or bacterial infection. Any medications? |

What is the size of this fish ? how long is this fish with you ? is this fish eating well ?
Discus are very sensitive to change in surrounding , this problem I think you notice after shifting this fish to other tank .
Try PP treatment dosage @200mg for 100 ltrs for 4 hrs , after 4 hrs make 100% WC and do the same treatment on day 2 & 3 again . Before starting this treatment , need to remove the bioload in tank by doing WC . measure the dose correctly . in case if you have put formalin in this tank earlier , then don't carry this treatment . Mixing of PP & Formalin is toxic to fish .
Try to post the pic of this discus .

PP - Potassium Permaganate ( KMNO4) , it is an oxidising agent .
Thanks

Hellooo my dear friend..I am very well here in m'bai just a lil busy and was not coming online...
B furan is good but i guess as he is getting recovery by melafix i guess other shotgun medications are not needed at the moment.. i guess observation for a couple of days more would be ok...
As for other fishes not eating is maybe as they are recent ly moved so give em some time to settle adn would start eating... |
