There is an annual AGA Aquascaping Contest. Results of which will be announced during the convention.
There may also be a IronAquascaper contest AT the convention.
It works like this:
2 groups are given 2 identical tanks, a bag of driftwood, Rocks, substrate and lighting.
There will be a selection of aquatic plants for each group which will also be the same in quantity and type. You may use any or all of these plant varieties in your aquascape. Plus you have one Mystery plant which is revealed to you at the last minute. You must use this plant in the aquascape. Time allotted is 60 mins upto filling the tank with water after the aquascaping from scratch.
You need to plan when you get the go ahead, rocks, driftwood and plant varieties are not revealed in advance.
Winner is judged by all present + a panel of judges. The entire aquascape is ripped apart in a discussion before the results are announced. The better aquascape is the winner.
Everything used in this competition is donated by local LFS and/or members with any kind of Commercial Interest in the hobby plus hobbyist members might chip in with plants if needed.
Both the tanks are auctioned at the end of the contest.
