 Hi  all,

 Greetings!

I  am  in  Thailand  now,  Bangkok  to  be  precise.  Met  up  with  Noon  Panitvong  here  thanks  to  help  from  KL  and  Tony  Pinto.
I'll  be  here  until  the  1st  of  March  and  then  on  to  Singapore  for  a  few  days  before  heading  home.

This  place  is  cool,  but  as  an  aqua  tourist  unless  you  know  people  locally  there's  not  much  to  guide  you  along  here.
I  still  have  to  get  to  that  Chatuchak  Market.

Met  up  with  a  couple  of  Aquarists  Nick  and  Pascal  from  Switzerland  yesterday,  actually  Noon  invited  all  3  of  us  to  dinner  last  night  and  that's  how  we  met.  I  Gave  them  my  IAH  card,  they  may  drop  in  on  the  site.

Sorry,  I'll  not  be  accessing  the  net  till  I  get  home  as  I  am  off  into  the  countryside  tomorrow  morning  looking  for  fish.  Wish  me  luck!

I  don't  know  if  I  can  carry  anything  back  for  myself  as  my  baggae  was  full  when  I  left  my  ship  a  couple  of  days  ago.  This  halt  being  an  unexpected  bonanza,  I  am  screwed  as  I  am  carrying  the  usual  baggage  and  there  is  simply  no  space  for  any  fish.  I  hope  I  can  get  a  few  varieties  of  Betta  across...  after  all  siamese......  siam.....  Thailand........

I  thought  I  could  go  out  into  the  country  side  today  but  have  been  puking  all  day  long....  some  kind  of  stomach  bug.  Must  be  a  rare  and  viscious    kind  as  I  never  get  affected.  Anyway  feeling  a  bit  in  the  dumps  so  didn't  go  out  of  Bangkok.  I  might  eventually  drop  the  idea  altogether  if  this  keeps  up  for  another  day.

This  place  Chatuchak  market  is  something  ....  Jatu  Jak  as  teh  locals  call  it...  more  on  this  place  later.

Well,  rest  or  no  rest  went  out  with  Noon,  Om  and  Porn  on  a  fish  collecting  trip  and  a  visit  to  the  public  aquarium  set  up  by  the  queen  here.

I  was  interested  in  getting  halfbeaks  and  Croaking  gourami...  couldn't  venture  too  far  out.

We  found  them  as  well  as  Betta  splendens,  3  spot  gourami,  Esomus  metallica,  1/2"  long  fry  of  a  knife  fish,  and  a  as  yet  unidentified  miniature  goby.

I  was  again  at  Chatuchak  market  today...  you  never  can  finish  seeing  that  market....  3  -  4  acres  of  fish  shops  8'  x  8'  in  size  with  the  aisles  only  4  or  5  feet  in  width....  I  am  going  there  again  tomorrow  with  Om  as  only  a  local  will  know  the  way  around  this  market.

The  public  aquarium  consists  of  2  huge  tanks  about  40  x  40  x  20  feet  high  set  up  as  a  natural  habitat  for  thai  fish  and  there  are  all  types  of  fish  from  Thailand  here.  There  is  a  sloping  walkway  around  these  tanks  with  windows  placed  all  along  for  viewing...  beautiful  concept.

I  saw  something  unique  today  a  blue  freshwater  lobster  in  a  freshwater  tank  with  freshwater  fish.  I  am  tempted  to  get  a  small  one  home...  but  how?  How  about  a  3  foot  long  Nile  lung  fish?
