One  of  my  friends  canister  filter  was  not  working  (motor  burnt).  He  approached  me  for  a  solution  and  did  not  want  to  spend  much  for  a  filter  again.  So  here  was  my  solution  and  its  working  fine  now.

I  took  a  power-head  and  fixed  it  to  the  inlet  of  the  canister  and  rest  everything  is  same  Smile
 Hope  you  like  the  idea.

Nice  idea  Prashanta.   Thumb Up   Thumb Up

Only  criteria  is  that  we  should  match  the  flow  rate  of  the  power  head  used  to  the  flow  rate  of  the  canister.  If  we  choose  more  flow  rate  power  head,  it  would  choke  the  canister  filter.

I  dont  see  any  issues  in  this  method.  Lets  see  if  other  have  any  other  opinion.

 Thanks  Shelly   Smile
The  filter  model  is  Dophin  C-500  and  for  that  I  have  used  a  small  sunsun  power-head  (600L/H).

 Nice  work!   Thumb Up

Don't  you  think  a  slightly  more  powerful  power-head  is  needed?  Just  to  account  for  head  loss.

 +1  with  Athreyan..

Dolphin  C-500  is  530  L/H  if  I'm  correct..  So,  the  powerhead  should  be  slightly  higher  than  that.
Also,  there  shouldn't  be  concern  to  match  the  flow  rate  of  the  power  head  used  to  the  flow  rate  of  the  canister  as  the  pump  of  the  canister  is  burnt  as  mentioned  by  Prashanta..   Smile

 Regards,
 ABHILASH

 Thanks  Guys.

As  I  have  already  mentioned,  I  have  used  a  power-head  which  is  600  L/H  (as  this  is  used  for  Dophin  C-500)  and  I  can  see  the  water  flow  is  better  than  before.

Some  of  these  power  heads  need  to  be  operated  inside  the  water  column,  else  overheat  and  get  burnt.  Chose  the  one  with  motor  having  its  own  way  to  dissipating  heat  when  kept  outside  water.

So,  i  guess,  there  will  be  some  demand  on  canister  filters  with  burnt  motor  now  onwards  here  Smile
 Liked  the  idea.

i  tried  using  my  Dolphin  1600C  Canister  filter  (1100  L/H),  whose  power  head  gone  (not  working).  Tried  fitted  using  Hana  600  L/H  same  way  as  illustrated  in  the  diagram.  Everything  is  working  fine, except  leakages  on  the  braces  of  the  locks  when  I  move  keep  the  outlet  pipe  higher  than  the  Hana  internal  power  head.  Which  means  it  is  unable  to  send  the  water  outside  through  outlet  hose.

Even  if  i  match  the  1100  L/H  output  i  think  the  water  leak  will  happen.  Any  suggestion  guys?

Jaisankar,  would  it  help,  if  you  use  pull  method  than  push  -  by  connecting  the  of  power  head  inlet  -  outlets  accordingly.  Vacuum  created  in  the  filter  may  avoid  any  leakage  like  that,  unlike  the  pressure  causing  issue  now.

Jaishankar,  looks  like  the  issue  is  with  the  canister  filter  gaskets  not  sitting  correctly.  try  adjusting  and  putting  back  the  canister,  it  may  work.
