Hello all!
I'm considering buying this regulator on ebay that has a thread gauge of 22mm and I want to know if it is compatible with locally available cylinders. I have listed two images for comparison. The first from Kolkata aquarist, implying successful use in the country and the second of the product. Visually they seem to be the same except the KAC one is mounted sideways for some reason.
I was on kolkata aquarists and noticed the mods picture of a similar regulator in use:

So judging by that I am inclined to believe that things should work out but I would like to be sure as its a lot of money to be wasted if anything were to go wrong.
So, conclusively would this work? I plan on buy from 'metro' in Mumbai.

The regulator could be used for the cylinders available locally.
The first image is the refurbished co2 cylinder and hence you see that the regulator is mounted horizontally. The cylinder which most of the hobbyist use is the refurbished cylinder and it would have the open/shut valve on top and the outlet horizontally placed.
The second image is the branded aquarium co2 cylinder which comes with the regulator fixed in the cylinder.
For what capacity cylinder are you planning to use this kind regulator. I wouldnt suggest this regulator for a cylinder larger than 3.5kg cylinder. This would be optimum for 2kg and lesser capacity cylinder unless you know the exact make of the regulator.

Thank you sir! That's concise and very well explained! Due to budget reasons mainly I intend to limit myself to a 1 kg cylinder so I think I should be good! You're right, with Chinese stuff, its best not to discover their limit when were talking kilos of pressure!

Wait before investing. You opted rightly for Metro to source a cylinder but for Regulator there are two choices- either get it customized or get local branded(example- Eagle) / chinese(example- Yamato)
The second image is somewhere similar to ISTA Aluminium Cylinder, its way different Regulator & won't fix to the Refurbished one you are going to get it from Metro
There's wholesale market for Regulators & cylinder accessories in Mohammad Ali Road(Map on Google) or you can source it from Nautilus Aquasystem, Bandra....obviously for more bucks !!
If you can wait we will have "Mumbai Aquarist Meet" in next month on 5th January(MAM conducts on 1st Sunday of every month) so you may able catch more ideas from Fellow hobbyists & then can finalize decision.

Yes you're right about the aluminium part of the regulator on ebay, might be incompatible. So after much reading, I really haven't moved too forward with this plan, a cylinder can be bought from metro but does he know what he's doing? There's some tubing in refurbished co2 cylinders that is supposed to be removed- how do I check this? I've already read that I must only buy cylinders that hold the co2 as a liquid.
Now about regulators I've read that single gauge regulator can lead to something called 'end of tank dumping' so I'm all worked up on what to do :/
Called up the Govandi person, he range starts at 3.5 for a 2kg, apparently 1 kg only exists in the refurbished realm.
I won't be able to make it, no time with college; thanks for the invite however! :)
Now about Mohammed Ali road, I had no idea will go and have a look, it's close to Masjid, will ask my friends for better directions. But buying from locals without them knowing I want it for an aquarium will lead to miscommunications no? I will need to buy a reg and a needle valve separately then. Complications that could lead to a lot of wasted money :/
So conclusively can someone vouch for some regulator that swear by? The likes of trustworthy local makes like ESAB- I really am just beginning to gather knowledge on the matter so do excuse any silly confusions.
