Please  share  you  experience/views  on  compatibility  between  Tomato  &  Maroon  Clowns.

Heard  that  they  cant  live  together  in  same  tank  unless  you  keep  them  in  giant  tanks,  but  I  have  seen  them  living  together  peacefuly  at  many  places,  including  in  the  show  tank  of  Nautilus  Aqua  Systems,  Mumbai.

It  is  commonly  known  that  Tomato  &  Maroon  Clown  fishes  do  not  live  together.  While  this  is  true,  there  is  also  another  theory  which  tells  that  if  you  keep  them  in  big  tanks  they  will  do  fine.  The  second  theory  is  applicable  for  any  fish.  I  have  experimented  with  this  and  have  achieved  good  results.  My  red-tailed-black-shark  used  to  chase  everyone  in  the  tank  when  it  was  in  my  20  gal.  But  when  I  shifted  it  to  my  110  gal  5  footer,  it  stopped  chasing  and  became  an  innocent  fish  just  like  silver  sharks.  He  does  not  even  chase  gold  fishes  now  a  days.   Smile

Never  had  any  experience  with  the  Tomato  Clown,  but  the  maroon  is  one  NASTY  species.  I  wouldn't  mix  the  two  until  I  had  a  system  atleast  150  gal  in  volume...

Hi  rocky! You  may  have  seen  them  living  "peacefully"  at  several  places, but  have  you  asked  how  long  they  have  been  in  the  same  tank  together? In  most  dealer's  places, fish  are  either  being  constantly  sold,or  atleast  moved  around  from  show  tank  to  show  tank  even  if  not  on  sale,or,at  the  very  least  there  is  a  bigger  fish  in  the  tank  that  threatens  the  two  clowns  so  that  they  set  aside  their  differences  in  view  of  a  larger  threat. It  is  only  when  the  fish  in  question  are  truly  settled  that  their  real  nature  comes  out. So,my  guess  is  that  if  you  find  "compatible"  maroon  and  tomato  clowns  they  are  yet  to  settle,or  are  barely  alive.

Last  year,  have  seen  them  living  peacefuly  in  5  ft  tank  &  still  going  on  at  one  of  my  friend's  place.  My  personal  experience  with  2  Tomato  was  nightmare.

But  wherever  I  have  seen  them  together  &  asked  the  owner  about  the  secret,  the  answer  was  :  Introduce  them  together  at  the  same  time,  there  wont  be  any  problem.

 Help!

i  have  a  gold  striped  maroon  in  a  90g  along  with  2  damsels  and  the  damsels  team  up  on  the  clown  and  constantly  harass  it  even  though  the  clown  is  slightly  bigger  so  am  thinking  of  returning  the  damsels  and  getting  4  sebae  clowns  ,  will  the  two  clown  sp.  live  together?

I  think  they  have  removed  the  maroon  and  only  the  tomato  is  present  now.  Last  two  visits  I  didn't  see  the  maroon  around.  Though  the  Nautilus  tank  is  I  guess  about  140  gal  and  there  are  always  large  fish  in  it.

A  maroon  clown  fish  is  indeed  a  nasty  fish.  But  if  you  add  them  after  adding  the  tomato  clown  and  if  the  maroon  clown  is  smaller  than  tomato  clown  and  the  tank  is  quite  big,  then  they  may  live  together  peacefully  but  you  can  not  stop  the  occasional  fights  and  chasing.  Thumb Up

Rocky  if  your  friend  told  you  to  introduce  them  together,  and  it  has  worked  for  over  a  year.  It  must  be  true  right?

The  answer  is  try  and  introduce  them  together  and  they  will  most  probably  survive.

This  is  news  to  me,  I  haven't  heard  of  this  technique(?)  before.

Madan,  I  think  if  he  will  introduce  them  together  the  maroon  will  survive  and  the  tamato  will  die  because  the  tomato  is  a  weaker  fish  compared  to  maroon.Don't  think  this  method  will  help.  Have  you  tried  it  Madan  sir  ?
