 hello...
well,  a  few  days  back  I  had  a  wild  caught  Channa  punctata.  after  keeping  it  for  a  few  days,  it  developed  a  fungus  kind  of  thing  around  the  head  area.  it  kept  growing  and  looked  like  cotton.  the  channa's  flesh  was  visible.  today  I  came  across  an  LFS  which  had  some  Channa  blehri.  again  two  of  the  fish  in  the  tank  had  the  similar  kind  of  thing  around  the  head.  it  looks  like  cotton  n  really  bad.  can  any  one  tell  what  disease/infection  is  it?  is  it  mainly  with  channa  sp.?  how  do  I  cure  it?

I  got  some  C.blehri  from  that  LFS,  these  fish  look  healthy,  but  I'm  afraid  they  may  develop  the  same  disease  after  some  time...

 thanks  in  advance.

i  just  hope  it  is  not  the  dreded  epizootic  ulcerative  syndrome  (EUS),  it  is  very  common  in  Channa  sp.  India  is  one  of  the  countries  hosts  the  disease.  I  once  appeared  few  years  and  wiped  out  a  lot  of  native  fish.  Indian  fish  are  on  UN  watch  list,  this  disease  will  be  the  reason  for  ornamental  fish  exports  from  India  will  be  banned   in  a  yaer  or  two.
