You are probably wondering… Is there ever a situation where I should drain my pond? Let’s try to rule out whether or not you need to drain the water.
First, you will never need to drain the pond entirely, especially if you have wildlife, you need to leave some of that good stuff. It’s ideal for the health and benefits of the organisms you have in your pond water to allow some of the bacteria to remain in your pond.
Draining no more than half of the water can go a long way in helping with the water quality. If your pond becomes overstocked with fish, you may end up with poor water quality. Particularly during the summer time when your fish produce more waste because of their metabolism being higher.
Good bacteria can sometimes become overwhelmed when there is too much waste build up, and this will result in poor water quality. So in these conditions, a small water change will help improve the quality of your water, but you definitely cannot drain all of the water.
Lastly, be sure that the water you fill your pond back up with has been properly dechlorinated to ensure the safety and health of your fish, good bacteria and microorganisms. Before starting this project, remove all your garden pond fountains, so you can reinstall at a later date.

Cleaning Your Pond Without Draining It
If your pond is very murky, green and full of debris, then it might be time for a good old fashioned pond cleaning! But before you even consider draining the pond, here is how you get your pond water back to being clean and clear in three easy steps.
A usual misconception when your pond water starts to become murky is that you need to drain your this water and replace it with fresh water in order to correct the problem. In most cases, this is so unnecessary, and could potentially do more harm than good.
because you will disrupt the natural ecosystem of the pond. Draining your pond water with a small pond fountain pump is only necessary in very extreme cases, and should never be done as a general way of cleaning your pond.
Billions and billions of good bacteria and microorganisms live in your pond water. They can decrease the amount of harmful chemicals that collect in the pond such as nitrogen and ammonia.
When you drain your murky pond water, you also drain all of the good bacteria and microorganisms, this is a natural filtration system for your ponds ecosystem. When you add water to your pond, especially from the tap, you are compounding problems. Most tap water is chlorinated, a chemical that your good bacterial, microorganisms and your fish can't tolerate it.

If you live in the mid west or south east you get a lot of rain and most likely you have lots of ponds in your area or maybe you are lucky enough to have a pond in your backyard.
A small pond fountain is the so easy to install and would be the best addition since it makes a beautiful decorative spray in the middle of the pond, but it also moves the water
and induces oxygen back into the pond, giving more oxygen for all the aquatic plant life and aquatic wildlife and other organisms necessary to keep the pond eco system in balance.

Pond and Lake Aeration:
A pond that is stagnant can make even the most beautiful aquatic environment become unsightly and odorous. In order to keep your pond enjoyable and healthy for years to come, you will need an aeration system. Aquatic plants and fish live in the water, and they need oxygen to live. Aquatic plants and fish also give off carbon dioxide and other gases that need to escape the water. In still pond water, gas exchange can only occur on the surface. Water on the surface of the pond gets fresh oxygen from the air. But this is only enough to oxygenate the water surface. Oxygen won’t make its way down to the deeper levels of water naturally. So aeration is the process of mixing the fresh oxygen throughout the whole pond. This fresh oxygen keeps your pond water very healthy and your fish and microorganism’s alive and well.
Aquatic plants and fish need oxygen to live. Water on the surface gets fresh oxygen from the air. But this is only enough to oxygenate the surface. Oxygen won’t make its way down to deeper water naturally. So aeration is the plthy and your fish and microorganism’s alive and well.

So as you can see, pond aeration is very important. But you already knew that, stirring up the water is the best way to ensure adequate circulation. This is what you need to avoid severe stratification and turnovers.

Why Use an Pond Aerator?

A surface or sub surface pond aerator is a type of mechanical device that can disburse oxygen into an aquatic environment at a high volume. This disbursement creates an oxygen-rich environment and prevents water from becoming stagnant, which cannot only be unsightly, but also hazardous to your health. Bacteria breeds quickly in stagnant water, and ingesting it can be dangerous.high volume pond circulators

Now any AC powered fountains or aerators can be powered by solar! Decorative floating fountains or aerating fountains are a popular feature in many ponds. In addition to fountains or aerators used for agricultural and decorative ponds, many times these units are installed as a means of mosquito control. Since these fountains are often installed in bodies of standing water where grid power is not available and prohibitively expensive to extend, solar power is the answer. Solar Pond Fountains or a solar pond aerators can be an efficient way to aerate your pond or lake. While the main purpose of a decorative fountain is aesthetics, these solar kits are a great way to aerate when you don't have power! Now our solar pond kits make this an affordable option!!Aerators powered by solar

Floating Pond Aerators
A lack of oxygen in a pond or lake can lead to fish kills, foul odors, algae growth, and stagnant vegetation. Our floating aeration systems have been made and proven to prevent these problems by adding essential oxygen to your pond or lake, for a clean, fresh, healthy ecosystem.

Scott floating pond aerators also eliminate mosquito breeding, inhibit surface and bottom growth of algae, and keep your pond water sparkling clean, all while creating a mesmerizing, high-volume "white boiling" effect of highly aerated water.

A decorative pond fountain is designed with a high volume pump that pulls the water into the pump and forces the water back out through a decorative nozzle, and that is how you get the taller decorative spray. This type of pond fountain will give you taller and more fancy displays. A pond fountain will aerate but not at the same rate an an aerator. Whenever you move the water around you are disturbing stagnation, retarding the growth of algae and adding oxygen. Even heavy winds will move the water and disturb stagnation. Pond Fountains main purpose is for aesthetics,  although it does aerate because it moves the water around similar to a pond aerator, but certainly not at the same high rate. The spray patterns on a decorative pond fountain usually have several patterns that are very tall and wide, so more decorative use, great for fountains for golf courses, wedding venues and resorts.

The Best Way To Aerate Your Pond

Your Pond requires aeration 24 hour a day, especially during the long hot summer months. The hotter the weather, the warmer the water is, the less oxygen it can hold and you could lose your fish overnight. A pond aeration kit is the solution. Without the installation of a pond aerator your pond will become stagnant and smell bad, not to mention the green algae or aquatic weeds and the stress your fish will go through because of lower oxygen levels. You need to mix up the ;ower level and upper levels of the pond water and the best way to do that is with a pond aerator. It mixes up a high volume of water with a propeller that is attached to a motor, similar to a large mixer, while giving you a beautiful
Decorative Aeration Fountain display.

Your backyard pond area should reflect your lifestyle. It’s not just some place to store the outdoor equipment and bicycles. It is a place to go to relax with the family and friends and enjoy. Choose simple backyard projects that will change your outdoor space and pond area into your family’s fun hangout spot. Fresh cut grass, colorful flowers or other plants, rocks and decorative outdoor items are great way to increase your outdoor environment. For home owners that have ponds on their property, should maybe consider a pond fountain for a small pond. Not only will it beautify the area but increase the value of your property. Add natural decorative accents. Using natural materials to add to your space.  Swings made of wood and flat stone pathways can set a whimsical mood for the rest of your design ideas. Opt for pest and rot resistant wood for easy maintenance.
Add bird friendly decorations. Birds are a great way to add nature in your space so add bird feeders and bird baths.pond fountain for a small pond

Two ways to anchor your floating Fountain

The small floating pond fountain can be anchored to the bottom of the pond or tied off to the shore if your pond is smaller in size. To anchor you will need heavy duty nylon rope, 1/8” – 1/4” thick. To anchor to the bottom of the pond, tie the ropes to cement blocks and drop blocks in opposite directions of each other. Tie other end of ropes to the float or the handle of the pump. This method will require entering the pond with a boat or canoe. If using the shoreline method, tie the ropes to the float and tie off one rope to one side of the shore and the other to the other side. Heavy duty mobile home anchors or dog tie stakes work well for this. Put fountain in water, be very careful not to get mud into the pump. The other rope can now be walked over to the other side of the pond and connected to the stake. This method works well in smaller ponds and you can make a pulley system. Your fountain may look different than the illustration but the anchoring set-up is still the same method.Small floating pond fountain

This pond owner took a small boat and repurposed it as an ornamental decoration and planter for his outdoor pond area.  There are so many things you can use to repurpose. Using anything that is ornamental and will hold water. All you need is a pump to circulate the water.

This is a fun way to decorate the shore of a small natural pond. This old boat is re purposed as a planter. A fun way to add some character to the pond. Also installing a small outdoor pond fountain kit helps aerate and also makes it extra pretty, without spending much money!!small outdoor pond fountain kit
