I have a similar dimension tank and wanted to convert it into planted one. I will be using ada amazonia instead of tropica. The rest of the tank specs are similar to yours. I would like to ask what were the difficulties you faced while setting up your tank? And how many lights are you using? Did u use any fertilizer or liquid dosings? What was the total cost of the setup minus tank and filters. Thanks

PostForum: Aquascaping   Posted: Thu Oct 10, 2019 2:48 pm   Subject: Need help in building a 40g planted tank
Hii, after a long time i am finally ready to start a planted tank. Its my first attempt in DIY and dont want to splurge much so my budget is max 6k. The folowing are my tank specs .

Tank - 30x18x18
Filter - Hagen marina CF40 canister filter.

I live in mumbai , and after asking around a bit in kurla and other fishy places i got some conflicted recommendations. So heres what they have recommended in gist

Substrate - River sand / Amazonia / Potting mix
Fertilizers - Vermicomposts/liquid dosings
Lightings - T5 18-20w 3 tubes/ Pl 36 w tube light - 4 tubes
CO2 - Co2 cylinder / Co2 dosings.

So these were some conflicting  recommendations of local lfs guys. Although i want to make it cheaply i dont want to skimp where it matters the most. So please give me some advice on what should i put in my planted tank and while doing that not end up breaking the bank. Thanks

PostForum: Aquatic Plants and Planted Aquaria   Posted: Fri Oct 28, 2016 1:20 am   Subject: Help!! setting up 35g planted tank
Hii, its been a long time since i have post something in this forum. I have a 35g cichlid tank which is running for like 3 years, now i decided to give my cichlids to a friend and setup a 35g planted tank.
My tank specs
Dimensions - 30x16x18
Filter - 1 hagen marina f60 canister filter :- 350l/h
          Media - ceramic rings, sponge.
          1 top filter- 650l/h
           Media-sponge

Since i am on a budget of 5-8k, its really confusing to decide on various things.
I want to hear other hobbyists opinions on substrates, fertilizers, co2, plants etc.
I wont be building this myself, it will be done by LFS.  I prefer  a medium lit walstad tank. I have some questions which are as follows

1) which substrate should i choose and how much Amount is necessary also the thickness of substrate layer. My LFS suggested me to use river sand with 4inch layer. Is it alrught? Please tell me pros and cons

2) which lightning setup should i buy, and how many watt per gallons should i use.
My LFS suggested me incandescent tube lights.

3) please give some guidance regarding ferts since i dont want enormous algae growth.

4) which plants should i choose, can u give me a list or any site. I want plants which do not have high nutrient or lightning demand. As for personal preference i do like plants with small leaves as they seem to make the aquarium appear larger than it originally is.

5) is co2 necessary? If yes then how should i go about diffusing co2.

6) i live in Thane city, if anyone have any experience with the stores in thane, kurla, borivali, mulund  regarding planted tanks, please feel free to tell me. I have inquired joey's aquarium in mulund and the ones nesr thane railway station.

Thanks.

PostForum: Filtration Equipment   Posted: Sat Sep 28, 2013 11:40 pm   Subject: canister vs external power filtef
Hi guys
Well i am new to this forum  .  i am setting up a 40g  cichlid tank
Dimensions are 30x18x18    Only 5 pairs of cichlidz in tank.
So i  wNt to buy a good filter  aS water quality is very important to me.
I am confused over good branded power filter or cheap  chineese  canister
. My budget is 3.5k max.  ths filter should be powerful and efficient in  caerying 3 stages of filteration.    i live in mumbai so if you know any shop with good accesories in mumbai  just let me know
Thnx
