PostForum: CO2 Equipment for Planted Aquaria   Posted: Sat Jun 03, 2017 10:04 pm   Subject: Re: DIY CO2 STAINLESS STEEL (CHINA MADE) (Citric + baking so
Hi,

For the benefit of new members

1) when you are giving it for refilling measure the weight of the cylinder and weigh it again after refilling, in that way you will not get cheated.  All small cylinders (other than a standard one 9kg) are refilled bottle to bottle.

2) coke (any Corbonated drink) bottle with citric acid and baking soda prone to explosion if the bottles are very old (i have experienced myself) change the bottles every 3 months.

3) for beginners who can spend little more time diy co2 with sugar and yeast are the best (provided you are not controlling the flow of CO2) I am still using this method and the growth is not less than that of pressurized CO2 as long as you are using a co2 reactor that mixes the co2.

in any of these method use an air stone when you are not using the light as the plants also breaths oxygen during the night.

Hope the above are informative

Dear Chandwe

I think your substrate is getting disturbed by the outflow from the filter, seachem clarity will help you to remove (settle down particle) the cloudiness.

Dear Athreyan,

Thank you

Yes, we have met at Senthil's place,

I thought of using metal tube for the cotact of chilled water in the ice box, expected the cooling effect will be very quick and the ice may not last longer, with a plastic tube the cooling will be gradual.

Dear Abhis,

I am not taking the cold water from the thermocol, the water is getting circulated within the tube, there is an inlet and outlet to the tank, hence there is no questiion of overflowing.

Dear Friends,

Here is a summer special for you, who do not wish to buy a Chiller, would like to stick to DIY stuff.

Required essentials ( I am using it for a 20G planted Tank)

1) Power head 400 L and above
2) Water tube ¼” (4 to 6 meters )
3) thermocol case box  (45X60 cm)
4) finally the essential ingredient (ICE)

Simple instruction

Make 2 holes on the top of the thermocol lid for the inlet and outlet Insert the tube from the bottom of the lid and roll the balance inside the box.
Connect 1 end to the power head outlet and leave the other one in the tank
Fill ½ of the thermocol box with ice and switch on your power head.
Wait for an hour and check your temperature.  It will last for 8 hrs in the morning and more than 12 hrs in the evening.

Here are some pictures

Greetings to everyone in IAH,

I am Ramakrishnan, (you can call me Ram), 50 years old and a Banker by profession.  I was keeping an Arowana earlier for about 4 years and have to leave the hobby due to personal constraints.

Currently I have started the hobby a month back with a small planted tank (2’x 1’ x 1.5’) with a hang on filter, DIY CO2 and Aquazonic 4 x 24 W T5 lights  and introduced some neon tetra's, rainbow and cherry shrimps.

Regards
Ram
