Nice looking neat setup. I like the way the anubias are planted. Good. Keep it up Rajiv. If you are planning to intruduce discus wait for some more time till the tank stabilizes.

Hi Sandeep that tank was a block buster. I am into discus, flowerhorns and planted tanks. This inspires me to go in for a bigger one. I am also a wheelchair user but that in no way comes in my hobby

Since now they are confirmed pair I suggest you move the pair to a bare bottom tank 1.5' cube will be ideal. Also go in for a egg laying cone and a mest to protect the eggs when layed. Wait and watch, you will suceed. All the best. By the way bring down the temp. to 27-28.

Hi Ash,

If you are going to have discus in your planted tank, as posted earlier, you have to feed them with commercial pellets only. Try this receipe once in a while it is vegetarian and has given good results in my discus.

1 teaspoon of spirnula powder
3 teaspoon of Hikari Discus Biogold
3-4 Boiled peas shelled and outer layer of the peas removed
1 medium leave of spinach (palak)
1 small clove of garlic

Grind the boiled peas, garlic and spinach in a mixi till they are in paste form. Then mix them with the spirnula powder and add Hikari Bio Gold. Mix them well the Hikari Bio Gold will  act as a binding agent for the mixture. You can either feed them direct or freeze the mix in the fridge then thaw them and feed.

Regards

Yes Rajiv, it is quite a long time since Delhi family met. The venue can be at my place which is centrally located and convenient for one and all. I am game for it.

PostForum: Discuss Discus   Posted: Wed Sep 22, 2010 12:17 pm   Subject: Re: adding new discus
I am a fanatic of discus and my experience is that bare bottom tank is best suited for discus. Though they are docile yet they can get aggressive if kept in numbers of 2 or 3. I am enumerating certain factors regarding discus as has been adviced to me by Mr. Shiv and Yogesh.

1. Any batch of discus bought should always be quarentined.
2. Discus should always be kept in 6 or more.
3. Never mix small ones with the big ones it will end up in the big one bullying the younger one.
4. In a planted tank you cannot feed the discus with goat heart or beef heart which needs frequent water change. So while introducing discus in a planted tank choose a discus that is atleast 3.5" or 4" so that they might not experience any stunting because of reduced water change and controlled feeding.

Try shifting them to a BB tank and make frequent water changes. I would definitely reduce the peppring. You might have seen my PB discus when kept with golden sand rocks and artificial plants how they were peppering and now after having changed the setup to BB with only one bogwood and their colours and shape and absolutely Nil peppring why don't you try. Also in a BB tank you can increase the temperature a little to 28 degree for a period of time and bring it down gradually to 26.

Why are they peppring a lot? PB genius pepper when under stress or unfavourable conditions like background, water parameters etc. What is your Ph and Dh values.
