Hayath  can  you  please  broach  on  the  topic  as  to   how  a  flash  is  supposed  to  be  used/  to  avoid  the  glaring  effect.Thank  you.

Great  tips  hayath.  Just  a  few  more  if  I  may  add,  when  using  manual  focus  try  to  focus  the  eye  of  the  fish.  Switch  of  the  pumps  for  a  few  mins  before  you  start  taking  photos.

 Hayath
I  second  Dinesh's  request.  Can  you  elaborate  more  on  flash  usage?
Many  of  your  pictures  appear  to  be  taken  with  a  flash.  But  they  don't  have  the  harsh  lighting/shadows  and  wahed  out  areas  typical  of  close  up  flash  use.
Do  you  have  any  tips  for  us  on  that?

 Sure  Unni  and  Dinesh  Smile
 From  the  original  post  itself

"*  Glare  on  the  aquarium  due  can  be  avoided  by  shooting  at  a  slight  angle.  We  need  to  ensure  the  angle  is  not  too  great,  else  we  would  get  images  which  show  the  fish  pretty  skewed  and  out  of  proportion.
 *  Flash  does  introduce  a  nasty  element  -  it  "washes  out  the  colours".  This  can  be  avoided  by  decreasing  the  flash  intensity  by  a  stop  or  two.
"

I  follow  these  along  with  "Metering"  on  the  subject  to  gain  the  right  exposure.  With  fish,  I  prefer  staying  as  far  as  possible  so  that  the  shadows  are  not  too  harsh.  Plus  having  a  "deep"  tank  helps  too  Smile

Please  do  let  me  know  if  you  need  anything  more.

 Cheers,

hehe...the  other  way  round...shoot  them  when  they  are  towards  the  front  of  the  glass  and  the  back  glass  is  quite  a  distance  away  Smile

Shooting  fish  with  more  "water"  between  the  lens  and  itself  will  result  in  lesser  detailed  shots  unless  you  have  crystal  clear  water.

 Cheers,
