 Hi  to  all,
How  to  check  the  pair  I  am  buying  is  male  and  female?  It  is  possible  that  both  are  males  or  both  are  females.

 Any  suggestion?
 Regards
 Harsh

 Hi  Harsh,

To  elaborate  on  why  Dan  is  asking  you  that  question,  identification  of  sex  of  fishes  depends  on  the  type  of  fish  itself.
For  example,  identifying  the  gender  of  a  guppy  is  totally  different  from  the  way  you  can  identify  the  gender  of  a  betta.  Smile

Sounds  like  Harsh  mainly  wants  to  start  breeding  fish.  Not  too  sure  if  thats  the  right  way  to  go  about  it.
Any  particular  reason  for  this  Harsh?
IMO  you  should  start  off  enjoying  and  understanding  the  various  aspects  of  fishkeeping,  before  you  try  breeding.
What  are  the  4  fishes  you  have  anyway?
If  you  still  wish  to  breed  fish,  i  guess  it  would  be  best  to  start  of  with  livebearers  i.e.  fish  like  black  mollys,  platys  and  guppies.
To  find  out  identification  of  male/female  in  such  fishes,  search  the  forums  here  or  else  try  googling  for  'gonopodium'

 Hi  Kaushik,
I  just  wanted  to  buy  a  pair  only  for  breeding  purpose  of  any  kind  of  breed.

 Hi  blackghost,
I  have  four  fishes,  One  is  Gouromi,  and  three  are  carps.
I  will  go  for  black  mollys.  Because  it  is  easily  available  in  shop  near  by  me.

 Regards
 Harsh

 Hi  Harsh,

Molly's  are  the  best  and  pretty  easy  to  breed.

Some  basic  info  abt  the  molly:

Black  Molly  or  Poecilia  sphenops  from  the  family  Poeciliidae
it  grows  to  size  8-12  cms.

It  originated  from  South  America  in  hard  waters.
We  can  mimc  its  habitat  by  adding  at  least  1  tea  spoon
of  salt  per  3  litres  of  medium  hard  water.

They  thrive  in  a  temperature  of  22-28°  C.

These  mainly  feed  on  green  algae  and  in  aquariums  u  can  feed  pellets
 and  live  worms.

For  Breeding  purposes,  these  give  birth  to  live  ones  unlike  some
fish  which  lay  eggs  and  hence  these  are  called  live-bearers.

Keep  these  in  a  community  with  other  mollies  for  best  breeding.

Now  about  your  question  of  how  to  check  for  male  and  female.
Male  molly  displays  gonopodium  and  females  are  larger  than  males
in  size  and  show  absence  of  gonopodium.

see  below  the  pics  and  it  would  be  clear  and  easy.
*the  pics  are  a  bit  funny,  I  sort  of  had  a  shaky  had  Wink

 regards

 Dan
