 Tirtha,  Yes  it  definitely  can!!!!
Once  you  commit  to  yourself  that  you  quit,  it  is  really  easy  in  fact.  I  documented  my  last  ashtray  as  follwing  and  I  knew  for  sure  that  it  was  the  last  ashtray  that  I  would  use.
This  photo  reminds  me  of  that  feeling  and  has  motivated  me  when  I  had  the  temptation  of  giving  in.

Best  of  luck  quitting.  If  you  decide  that  you  are  going  to  quit,  contact  me,  I  can  give  you  few  tips  and  links.  I  also  helped  two  of  my  friends  quit.  Cheer

I  am  all  for  that.  I  gave  up  smoking  for  first  3  weeks  when  I  was  there  in  US  but  some  of  my  good  friends  again  drag  me  into  the  addiction  again.  Now  now  it  seems,  I  am  on  the  point  of  no  return.   Sad

 Very  interesting  topic  here.
I  recently  got  a  Canon  EOS  IX  film  SLR  off  another  IAH  member.
This  used  APS  film  and  will  be  my  first  SLR,  using  EF  lenses.

Will  the  EF  lenses  work  on  the  Canon  DSLRs?

I  think  all  Recent  Canon  SLR  lenses  are  compatable  with  Canon  DSLRs  also.  But  not  sure,  as  some  of  the  autofocus  lense  should  have  some  electronic  compatability  with  the  main  camera  body.

You  can  goin  for  a  Canon  EOS  400D  or  an  EOS  450D  in  your  budget.  I  just  got  an  EOS  40D  last  week.  It's  an  awesome  camera.....awfully  big  and  heavy  though.  It's  fitted  with  an  EF  28-135mm  F/3.5-5.6  IS  USM  standard  zoom  lens.  And  yes,  it  did  burn  my  entire  pocket  out  (not  just  a  hole)   Chuckle     Im  still  practicing  shooting  in  the  manual  mode,  and  have  achieved  quite  a  lot  in  the  past  week.  The  more  I  shoot,  the  better  it  gets.

Can  anyone  advise  me  as  to  where  can  I  get  a  basic  Macro  lens  ----  Cheap??  I  have  a  Canon  EOS  40D.  How  are  Tamron  and  Sigma  lenses?  are  they  compatible  to  a  Canon  EOS?

 Madan,
Could  you  please  throw  some  light  on  this??  Also,  if  I  am  looking  for  a  50mm  Macro  lens,  how  much  would  it  hurt  my  pocket?

Yes  Tamron  and  Sigma  do  make  lens'  of  both  canon  and  nikon  mount.

For  a  macro-only  I  would  suggest  the  Tamron  105mm,  it  gives  some  amazing  results.

Dear  Thirtha,  let  me  tel  you  some  of  the  facts  about  a  digital  camera

 1.  As  of  todays  tecnology  DSLR  dont  capture  as  accurate  as  Analog  SLR
(it  is  just  a  fact  belived  by  expert  photographers  but  for  advantages  analog  is
      no  match  for  a  DSLR)

 2.  The  viewfinder  wil  not  be  as  relaxed  as  the  normal  digtal  cameras  b'because
you  will  not  have  a  LCD  view  finder  in  DSLR.

 3.  The  digital  photo  graphy  is  about  half  photography  &  half  image  editing  softwares
get  used  to  Photoshop,  Neat  image  if  you  are  not  use  to.

 4.  Buy  a  good  trypod  also  a  remote  clicker  these  are  very  usefull  especially  for
       aquarium  photo  graphy.

 5.  Memory  card:  buy  8GB  b'because  its  better  to  capture  the  photos  in  RAW  format
then  JPG  it  gives  you  lot  of  flexibilty  to  adjust  the  white  balace.
      approx  file  size  of  a
JPG  1.5  to  2  MB,  looses  lot  of  color
RAW  35  to  50  MB   preserves  all  the  colors  very  usefull  when  printing

 6.  Lens:  shoud  be  very  carefull  while  changing  this  is  the  time  the  dust  get  in  to
      your  camera's  sensor  &  lence
personally  if  feel   18-70  or  (if  available  17-70)  will  be  ideal  to  start  with

 7.  If  you  want  to  save  cost  you  can  buy  it  form  a  grey  market  u  can  save  up  to  30-40%.
(but  risk  involved  you  wont  get  any  guarantee)

 Shekar
