This  is  very  common  incident  with  the  beginners.  They  always  go  for  some  unusual  but  attractive  stuffs.  Most  of  the  time  they  end  up  with  Parrots,  FH  etc  etc.
But  when  they  enter  into  IAH  they  came  to  know  the  reality.  I  would  say,  when  you  have  spend  money,  keep  it  with  you  and  take  good  care  of  him.  Already  you  have  spend  money  and  the  LFS  got  it's  profit.  So  there  is  no  point  culling  the  poor  fish.  But  in  future  don't  go  for  mutants  or  dyed  fishes.

 Cecil,

 Your  FH  looks  nice.
For  more  info,  this  is  a  short  body  FH  which  is  the  result  of  selected  breeding  in  Singapore  and  Malaysia.  If  you  guys  can  go  through  the  websites  breeding  Flowerhorn  in  Malaysia  and  singapore  then  you  would  have  come  to  know  about  the  short  body  FH.  These  are  the  result  of  cross  breeding  of  Flowerhorn  and  Parrot.
Parrot  does  have  diformity  but  these  FH  are  only  round  in  shape  as  the  parrot.  The  short  body  Fh  may  be  new  in  India,  but  it  has  been  more  than  3/4  yrs  since  it  has  been  bred  in  Malaysia  and  Singapore..  These  are  of  high  demand  in  USA  even.
Guys,  if  you  can't  give  life  to  any  creature  then  you  mustn't  kill  or  advice  others  to  kill  it.  The  person  who  can  kill  a  fish  just  for  this  simple  reason  that  it  may  have  diformity  is  not  at  all  a  pet  lover.
By  putting  your  view  on  killing  and  throwing  this  kind  of  fish,  you  meant  to  say  that  you  gonna  do  the  same  with  your  child  even;  if  he/she  borns  as  handicap  with  deformity  in  leg  or  hand  or  other  part  of  body.
 Strange..
i  never  thought  that  I  will  find  out  this  type  of  suggestions  in  this  community.  Â Sad

Hope  I  haven't  hurt  anyone  with  my  comments.

Cecil,  one  of  my  friend  is  having  2  short  body  FH  and  he  has  those  for  more  than  a  year  now..  These  fish  are  really  cute..  Congrats  for  having  such  a  beautiful  FH.  Take  good  care  of  it.

Onething,  I  must  say  that  it  won't  grow  more  than  5/6  inch  in  size.

 Thanks

 Hi  All,

I  am  pretty  curious  to  know  how  exactly  are  hybrids  in  FH  done.
What  is  the  procedure  and  the  setup  required.

I  do  not  encourage  this,  but  I  really  want  to  know  what  is  the
procedure  and  how  to  go  about  this.

If  people  feel  this  is  not  the  right  place  to  answer,  please  reply
me  at  my  email  id:  daniel_singh_in  [at]  yahoo  [dot]  com

I  am  from  a  genetics  background  and  I  do  hybrids  at  molecular  level
on  a  daily  basis  in  a  lab  setup.

But  how  can  one  naturally  pair  2  different  varieties  and  what  is  the  setup
 for  breeding  is  my  curiosity.

My  hypothesis  is  basically  with  respect  to  community  tanks.
If  this  is  done  readily  by  the  LFS  or  some  people,  then  why  do  we  not
see  this  phenomenon  of  cross  breeding  in  community  tanks  readily.

 hope  this  makes  sense.

 regards

 Dan

Naturally?  FH  is  a  test  tube  baby.

To  put  it  correctly  a  petri  dish  baby.

 Hi  Nayak,

thanks  for  the  info.  Can  you  elaborate  the  procedure  more.

@Cecil:  Do  u  like/love  your  new  Short  body  FH?
If  you  sincerely  do  then  keep  it  and  care  for  it  or  else
give  it  back  to  the  LFS  or  another  person  who  can  take  care  of
 it  properly  and  with  enthusiasm.

 hope  this  helps.

 regards

 Dan

 Dan,

Please  check  the  Cichlid  forum  on  IAH.  You  will  find  a  lot  of  post  pertaining  to  this  topic.  Especially  the  locked  threads  Chuckle

Also  read  Madhu's  article  regarding  Monster  fish  on  Aquaarticles.  Very  interesting.  There  is  a  link  somewhere  on  IAH.

Also  Google  for  origin  of  flower  horn.

I  do  not  want  to  post  anything  here  since  tempers  have  a  tendency  to  run  high  when  you  discuss  flowerhorn  and  Cecil  has  posted  this  thread  in  good  faith.  Like  Tirtha  said  he  is  more  knowledgeable  now.

 Regards,
 Nayak.

i  think  this  thread  has  lost  its  way.  Sad   cecil  just  wants  to  show  his  fish  to  us  and  he  dnt  need  any  type  of  ill  advice  whether  to  cull  or  not?we  are  here  to  help  each  other  not  to  discourage  or  to  advice  to  cull  down  any  fish.altogether  it  is  a  fish  whether  natural  or  hybrid  and  as  a  true  fish  lover  n  hobbyist  i  can  teven  dream  about  culling  down  any  fish.this  type  of  action  doesnt  show  any  human  behaviour  or  love  for  fishes.those  who  are  advicing  cecil  to  do  that  act  i  am  afraid  are  they  true  fish  hobbyist  n  lover  ???  Thumb Down   Shocked

 @Dan:

Most  Cichlasoma  cichlids  are  pretty  closely  related  and  will  breed  naturally  and  hybridize.   Unfortunately,  unlike  parrots,  FHs  can  fertilize.

A  specimen  is  way  too  different  from  a  product.   Specimen  are  sold  and  products  are  marketed.

Cicil,  If  you  like  that  fish  just  go  on  with  it  and  make  sure  it  doesn't  live  in   anything  except  a  glass  tank.

@All  the  kind  hearted  guys  above  who  are  against  culling:
I  suggest  you  read  the  book  Orign  of  Species  by  Charles  Drawin.
