 Hi  All,

My  name  is  Gopinath  working  in  Bangalore.  I  was  gifted  with  my  first  tank  and  set  fishes.  iam  now  loving  them..  and  also  tried  to  find  out  more  about  the  fishes  and  found  a  lot  of  fourms  where  people  are  so  much  intrested  in  this  hobby  which  has  induced  me  to  continue  further  and  try  to  spend  a  lot  of  time  on  it.  now  a  days  most  of  my  weekends  are  with  them.   Smile

Not  sure  if  i  could  give  the  exact  details  since  most  of  them  iam  not  sure  off  hope  to  learning  more.

 Tank  size  :  3X1.5X2
Light            :  Tubelight  which  the  shop  guy  gave  us  when  we  bougth  it
 Fishes         :
1  pair  balck  molly  1  pair  white  molly
                            4  Tiger  barbs
                            2  Gold
2  Sharks  not  sure  on  which  veriety  (around  3  inches  black  with  sliver  stripes)
1  not  sure  what  its  name  name  is
2  not  sure  what  their  name  are
I  am  not  sure  i  have  to  add  a  filter  or  not.  but  i  have  a  Oxygen  motor.  (again  as  told  by  the  shop  keeper).  two  sets  of  plants.

Apart  from  this  one  of  the  molly  gave  birth  to  18  black  frys  out  of  which  8  have  survived  till  now  (a  month  old  now).  ive  kept  them  in  a  bowl.

i  did  not  have  any  thoughts  about  fishes  or  aquarium  before  after  my  first  one  and  after  reading  a  lot  of  the  articles  in  the  forums  and  seeing  the  pics  has  motivated  me  to  build  a  bigger  one.

But  this  time  iam  reading  these  articles  and  taking  all  the  advice  could  be  possible  in  order  to  come  up  with  a  very  good  atractive  fishes, aquarium.

My  intrest  is  to  build  a  full  fledged  aquarium  from  the  scratch.  like  even  building  it  from  individual  glasses  trying  to  get  a  lot  of  knowledge  about  how  to  build  one.  not  sure  about  the  plants  have  to  start  researching  on  this  one  soon.

if  iam  left  alone  ill  write  stories  let  me  stop  here   Very Happy  and  say  happy  keeping  fishes.

 Hello  Everybody,

I  am  Arindam  working  as  a  Senior  Test  Engg.  with  a  Software  Development  Company  in  Baroda  Gujarat.  I  just  got  my  first  Aquarium(35"  *  11"  *  18")  at  home  with  14  no  of  Tiger  Barbs  from  a  Local  Vendor  with  a  chinese  made  Filter  &  Air  Pump.

My  main  reason  of  purchasing  the  Aquarium  was  due  to  my  6  year  old  daughter.  Whenever  in  National  Geograhy  or  Discovery  channel  there  is  a  programme  on  Fishes  she  use  to  leave  everything  and  start  watching  Fishes  on  the  TV.  So  i  thought  of  it  would  be  a  great  idea  of  getting  a  Aquarium  at  home  and  so  i  got  one.

 Regards,

 Arindam

 Hello  folks,

I  am  Lakshminarayanan  working  as  a  Software  Engg.  with  a  "sweatshop"  in  Bangalore.

I  got  my  Aquarium  at  home  with  a  chinese  made  Filter,  Air  Pump,  a  thermostat,  and  a  CFL  bulb.

 The  fishes  I  have  are:
  -  4  Gold  Pearlscale  Angelfish
  -  1  tuxedo  Angel
  -  2  Bala  Sharks
  -  1  RedTail  Sharks
  -  2  Red  line  torpedo  barbs  aka  "Miss  Kerala"  -  thanks  to  Hayath  for  pointing  this  out.
  -  2  Parrot  Fish
  -  2  Blue  gouramis  (each  about  an  inch  long)
  -  1  Giant  gourami  (each  about  4  inches  long)
  -  ~  10  red  zebras
  -  ~  10  guppies  (most  seem  to  be  males)
  -  7  neon  tetras
  -  3  green  zebrafish
  -  1  X-Ray  tetra  (the  lone  survivor  from  a  HUGE  gang  of  about  20)

I  even  had  2  Black  Ghosts  for  a  very  short  time  (I  think  about  a  week).  But,  since  my  parents  and  sister  didn't  like  it  sitting  hiding  in  the  bushes  doing  nothing,  I  had  to  return  it.

This  list  you  see  today  has  been  "updated"  quite  a  few  times.  Initially,  since  my  father  wanted  to  see  shoaling  fishes,  we  had  a  HUGE  number  of  only  tetras,  and  guppies,  and  of  course,  those  two  shark-like-fishes  which  I'm  unable  to  "classify".  But,  because  I  overestimated  their  hardiness  to  drops  in  water  temperature,  there  was  a  superfast  die  off.  Lost  almost  of  the  fishes  -  the  phrase  "falling  like  ten-pins"  comes  to  mind.  Thankfully,  I  installed  the  thermostat  before  ALL  of  them  gave  up  on  me.  Now,  the  "survivors"  from  that  initial  gang  are  the  last  few  tetras,  that  one  X-Ray  tetra,  and  the  2  shark-like-fishes.

Quite  frankly,  I'm  not  at  all  happy  with  the  parrot  fish.  Bought  them  on  an  impulse  -  and  found  out  that  I  didn't  like  them  just  lazing  around  on  the  bottom  of  the  tank.  Hopefully  I  can  return  them  back  tomorrow.

The  tank  size  I  am  having  is  about  3ft  x  2ft  x  1.5ft.  Dimensions.  I'm  guessing  that  for  this  size  of  the  tank,  it  is  too  densely  packed?  Any  comments  here  would  help.

I've  always  been  a  aquarium  lover.  There's  something  very  calming  /  soothing  to  see  them  swim  around.  I  guess  I  was  also  enamoured  by  the  ad  they  used  to  for  Singapore  tourism.  It  used  to  say  "Watch  fish  watching  you  watching  them."

Whew  -  I  intended  to  keep  this  short.  Ended  up  being  a  Ramayana.  Sorry  about  that  folks....

Hoping  to  get  more  gyaan  and  ideas  for  even  better  aquariums  from  here.

 kthxbai,  Smile

 Hi,

I  am  Avi  from  Kolkata.  I  am  an  avid  fish  lover,  but  had  to  give  it  up  some  10  years  ago  as  I  left  for  my  studies.  I  have  started  it  again.  I  am  amazed  to  find  the  transformation  and  the  level  of  professionalism  in  this  hobby  today.  I  am  glad  to  find  this  place  and  hope  to  gain  from  all  your  collective  knowledge.

Welcome  to  IAH  doc.  Have  a  great  stay.

Sorry  to  say  you  are  heading  wrong  way  with  your  tank.  2x1x1.5  feet  tank  is  too  small  for  goldfish.
The  tank  cannot  hold  the  bioload  of  so  many  fishes.

Please  send  some  of  your  valuable  time  going  through  the  forums  and  through  some  really  good  articles  on  site.  Also  read  up  on  Ammonia/nitrogen  Cycle.

As  a  beginner  i  would  recommend  you  livebearers  like  mollies,  swordtails,  guppies  etc.

Refrain  housing  goldfish  unless  you  have  really  big  tank.

 Again,  Welcome  to  IAH.  Smile

 Hi
I  am  Amit...  a  Chemical  Engineer  working  in  Indian  Oil  Corp.Ltd.  I  have  started  this  hobby  very  late  about  3  months  ago  at  my  52  tears  of  age.  I  have  two  fresh  water  tanks  (2.5'  x  1'  x  1.5')  and  (3'  x  1'  x  1.5').  The  first  one  have  the  following  fishes:
 Kissing  Gouramies  -  2  nos.
 Koi  fishes  -  2  nos.
Tin  foil  barbs  -  2  nos.
Red  tail  sharks  -  2  nos.
 Tiger  barbs  -  2  nos
 Rosy  barbs  -  2  nos.

and  the  second  tank  has  only  one  Red  Devil  fish.

My  wife  and  myself  take  care  of  them  as  a  team.  The  first  tank  is  definitely  overstocked.  But  regular  water  change  (3  times  a  week)  helps.  I  am  looking  for  a  gravel  vacuum  cleaner.  Can  anybody  suggest?

Now  I  am  setting  up  a  500  ltr  Marine  tank  (FOWLR).

I  am  immensely  helped  by  IAH  members  specially  Nirav  (Nash81)  in  setting  up  my  Marine  tank.  I  am  an  avid  reader.  IAH  threads  are  really  a  treasure  of  informations.  But  the  marine  section  is  not  that  much  regularly  churned  as  in  the  case  of  fresh  water  and  planted  section.

Hope  to  learn  more  and  follow  the  right  steps  in  Marine.

 Thanks  to  all.

 Cheers

 Hi  Pals,
Im  Nishant.  A  lawyer  by  profession.  Its  been  a  year  that  im  involded  in  the  hobby  of  aquaria.  I  have  5  tanks  and  a  cemented  terrace  pond.  Three  are  planted  and  two  are  with  cichlids.  Am  a  greal  cichlid  lover.  I  recently  came  to  know  about  this  forum.  Now  I  feel  good  being  exposed  to  the  ocean  of  knowledge  about  aquaria  and  communicating  people  with  similar  interest.  Smile
