 1)  Request  to  give  a  small  introduction  about  your  self  and  your  set  up  .
 2)  How  long  are  you  in  this  hobby  ?  How  many  tanks  you  have  ?  what  is  the  tank  size  ?  What  is  the  size  of  these  Discus  ?  etc  ,  etc  ,  .
 3)  Buying  Discus  from  LFS  is  not  a  good  choice  ,  especially  when  they  use  the  same  pipes  &  same  nets  for  all  fishes  in  all  Tank  .  Chances  of  infections  are  more  .
 4)  What  is  the  size  of  these  Discus  .
 5)  Keeping  Discus  with  other  fishes  is  always  a  Risk  .
 6)  Try  to  keep  atleast  6  -  8  discus  in  Bare  bottom  tank  .
 7)  Discus  stays  without  food  for  more  then  8  days  also  ,  give  them  sufficient  time  to  get  adjusted  to  new  enviornment  .  Discus  are  very  sensitive  to  change  in  surroundings.

Solution  :  Keep  these  discus  seperately  in  only  discus  tank  ,  and  do  good  WC  daily  and  put  salt  after  WC  for  2/  3  days  .

 Regards

Hello  Shiva  I  am  Chintan  from  Navi  Mumbai.  I’m  23  year  old  and  I  am  into  fish  keeping  for  the  past  6  years.  I  am  still  a  novice  in  this  hobby.  I  have  successfully  kept  angels,  dollars,  silver  sharks,  black  ghost  and  oscars.  Recently  i  gave  away  my  two  albino  oscars  (size  6inch  )  to  the  LFS  guy  as  my  33gl  tank  was  not  big  enough  to  house  them.  At  present  I  have  two  fish  tanks  and  one  fish  bowl.

   I)  33gl  tank  dimension  -  36"x  12"  x  18"
Substrate  :  25kg  golden  sand  +  two  rocks   and  a  drift  wood.
Filtration  :  one  corner  filter  and  one  power  filter
         Tank  temperature  :  30C
         W/C:  20%  every  1  week

Recently  added  a  pair  of  royal  blue  discuss  size  2.5-3inch,   a  pair  of  albino  corydoras  size  1  inch,  a  pair  of  glow  light  tetra  size  1inch.  I  already  had  a  pleco  (size  5inch).   The  tank  was  properly  cycled  before  adding  any  fish.

 Link  2:  http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo210/chintandave/IMG_0226.jpg

 II)  8gl  tank  dimension  18"x10"x12"
Bare  bottom  tank  with  one  corner  filter.  In  this  tank  I  have  one  breeding  Jewel  Cichlid  pair.  The  jewel  has  spawn  thrice  but  never  got  fries.  It’s  a  different  issue  I’ll  create  a  new  thread  to  know  more  about  breeding.

And  I  have  a  green&red  male  siamese  fighter  fish  in  a  3gl  bowl.  I  bought  him  6months  back.

then  what   do  you  suggest  ?  from  where  should  I  buy  discus?

I  don’t  know  why  the  discus  is  not  eating  its  almost  over  2  weeks!!!  I’ll  try  and  post  pics
Their  color  is  just  fine  and  they  don’t  seem  to  be  in  any  kind  of  stress.

 Hi  Chintan,

Those  discus  are  surely  stunted  &  one  discus  have  short  gill.  The  name  you  said  Royal  Blue????  what's  that  variety.  The  variety  in  photo  is  blue  torques.

Don't  try  tetrabits  or  dried  worms  because  they  are  not  use  to  for  that  food.  Try  frozen  blood  worms  or  beef  heart  mix.  Epsom  salt  is  ok  &  you  can  use  with  normal  rock  salt.  But  need  to  take  treatment  for  4-5  days  then  you  can  get  positive  response  from  fish.  Putting  once  a  epsom  salt  in  the  tank  &  expecting  a  miracle  is  wrong.  I'll  explain  treatment.

 If  discus  not  eating  then

 1.  1  teaspoon  Epsom  Salt  per  10  gallons  of  water.  Salt  must  be  dissolved  in  aquarium  water  and  slowly  poured  in  tank.

 2.  Start  with  1/2  teaspoon  Epsom  Salt  per  10  gallons  water.  Repeat  dosage  after  4-6  hours,  to  avoid  sudden  changes  in  water  parameters.

 3.  If  no  positive  response  from  fish  in  24  hours,  repeat  half  dosage  again.

 4.  Remove  salt  through  regular  water  changes  after  48  hours.

A  combination  of  both  salts  (Epsom  +  Rock  salt)  can  be  used  as  a  treatment.

Try  to  feed  frozen  blood  worm  &  i  am  99%  sure  that  they  going  to  eat  that.

Good  Luck  &  Don't  give  up.

 Regards

The  tank  setup  with  sand,  driftwood,  rocks  &  lovely  background  looks  beautiful  to  the  eyes  but  definitely  not  an  ideal  setup  for  discus.  You  need  to  get  rid  of  all  this  stuff  if  you  are  really  serious  about  your  discus  keeping.

Both  Turqs  look  totally  stressed  with  their  new  home  as  shown  by  their  bars.  Totally  out  of  shape,  also  suffering  from  open  gils.  Its  not  your  fault  though,  many  beginners  are  done  by  LFS  by  selling  such  poor  quality  fish  (here  you  are  done  with  their  strain  name  too).

Never  keep  only  two  discus  in  a  tank.  Even  if  these  two  used  to  eat  normally,  what  you  will  get  is  one  beautifully  grown  discus  (stronger  one)  &  the  other  pale  stressed  stunted  discus  (weaker  one).

Regarding  these  two,  try  to  de-flaggate  or  de-worming  them  as  a  last  remedy.

Do  not  lose  heart,  always  buy  your  discus  from  reputed  breeder.  You  will  be  benefited  with  lot  of  guidance  from  them  either.  Check  with  Shiva  Nair  himself,  I  think  he  is  located  at  Dombivali.

 All  the  best!!!

Hi  Yogesh  thanks  for  helping  me.  I  have  added  4  plants  yesterday  but  i  know  that  will  not  do  the  trick.  Can  i  transfer  them  to  a  5gl  bare  bottom  tank  for  the  time  being  ?  if  not  then  can  you  or  Shiva  take  my  discuss  for  some  time  ??  i  cannot  add  more  discuss  as  I  have  only  33gl  tank  but  i  am  planning  to  buy  a  90gl  tank  next  month.  let  me  know  asap.  Thank  you  very  much  guys.  Good  bye.

 Hello  Chintan,

You  can  shift  the  duo  to  your  5Gal  BB  tank.

When  you  get  your  new  90Gal  tank,  remember  the  below  basic  rules  of  discus  keeping:
 1.  Bare-bottom  tank
 2.  Temperature  around  29  degrees
 3.  Daily  min.50%  Water  Changes
 4.  BHM,  Tetra-bits  or  Frozen  dry  food  as  their  diet

Do  not  stick  flashy  background  to  your  discus  tank  which  stresses  them.  Just  go  for  simple  light  blue  color.
Also,  remember  to  pick  your  discus  from  the  reputed  breeder.
Start  with  Blue/Red  Turquoise,  Blue  Diamonds,  Pigeons

Discus  is  pretty  hardy  fish  and  if  you  follow  these  simple  guidelines,  discus  will  take  care  of  themselves  &  grow  beautifully.

 Best  luck!!!

If  anything  else  needs  to  be  done  let  me  know....

20%  is  much  lesser  volume  for  WC.
Do  min.50%,  use  Hypo  as  dechlorinator.

Instead  of  using  those  bottled  Chlorine  remover  liquids,  use  Hypo  Crystals  (Sodium  Thyosulphate)  which  are  effective  for  heavy  WC  required  for  discus  tanks.
