I  got  Echinodorus  Tenellus  from  two  sources  for  my  tank.  They  look  different  with  one  having  narrow  {2-3mm}  wide  leaves  and  darker  color.  The  second  type  seem  to  have  leaves  about  4-5mm  wide  and  has  a  lighter  color.  Cant  really  make  out  the  difference  in  the  height  of  plants  since  they  have  just  started  growing

Are  there  two  variants  of  the  E.Tenellus?

 Submerged  and  emersed  growth.

The  narrow  leaf  ones  are  grown  under  water  whereas  the  broad  leaf  one's  are  emersed  growth.

 Regards,
 Nayak.

I  think  venkat  might  be  right,  sometime  back  I  had  the  2  in  my  tank,  I  think  tenneleus  has  more  number  of  leaves  comng  out  from  the  base  and  has  broader  leaves.
Rasik,  tenneleus  is  a  very  low  plant,  is  it  grown  in  emersed  form?

 Sandeep,

I  have  got  photo's  of  both  emersed  and  submerged  growth  of  E.tenellus.

The  LFS  grows  them  in  emersed  form  for  faster  growth.  After  about  15  days  in  an  aquarium  the  broad  leaves  melt  away  and  are  replaced  by  narrow  leaf.

Like  Venkat  said,  It  might  be  E.Quadricostatus  also  or  it  might  be  Sagittaria  subulata  which  is  similar.  With  out  picture  it  is  difficult  to  comment.

 Regards,
 Nayak.

The  above  broad  leaf  plant  I  have  got  as  Ech  Tennelus  only.
If  its  not  Ech  Tennelus,  kindly  id  the  same.  Smile

But  I  am  sure,  it  is  not  Quadricostatus.

 Here  are  my  pictures.

The  first  is  roll  camera  and  the  second  digi-cam.

I  got  four  of  the  emersed  type  from  an  LFS.  After  six  months  the  plants  had  a  new  look  and  were  propogating  through  runners  in  the  second  picture.

 You  decide  now,Goutham-ji  Very Happy

 Hi
sorry  for  the  delay  in  getting  the  pictures.  Had  to  get  the  camera  from  work  and  come  back   Smile
Here  is  a  picture  of  the  two  types  side  by  side

 @  Nayak
Now  that  I  heard  about  the  emersed  leaves  melting  away  I  think  that  it  might  be  the  case  here  you  can  see  a  lot  of  melting  leaves  in  the  picture.

I  was  worried  that  all  my  E.Tenellus  were  dying     Chuckle

 Edited  to  add  the  following

I  got  the  narrow  leaved  ones  from  Mayur,  they  were  kept  submerged  in  a  small  tank  for  6  weeks  in  the  pot  before  I  planted  them
The  large  leaved  ones  were  acquired  from  Sreepadma  in  Aluva,  I  heard  that  he  grows  them  emersed  with  water  sprays

Sorry  to  bump  this  so  soon

Can  anyone  confirm  that  the  two  are  same?  If  not  which  is  the  tenellus?  I  planted  only  about  a  week  back,  so  if  one  of  the  two  is  not  tenellus  I  can  still  pull  it  out  without  bringing  up  a  mushroom  cloud  of  laterite.

I  have  the  same  two  plants  and  the  one  on  the  right  is  tennelus.
I  suspect  the  one  on  the  left  is  Lileaopsis  sp.
