 Dear  All
The  Gangetic  Dolphin  or  locally  called  'ShuShuk'  are  in  a  verge  of  extinctions.  Only  available  in  Farakka  Dam(Murshidabad  District)areas  and  in  upper  streams  of  Uttaranchal  near  Rudra  Prayag.  No  conservation  project  yet  to  launch  to  save  this  beautiful  river  water  species.  I  think  after  the  Tehri  Dam  projects  their  populations  may  be  declined  drastically.  A  handful  of  Dolphin  available  in  Farakka  Dam  areas  and  Local  fisherman’s  are  killing  regularly  to  get  some  extra  cash.   Sad  May  be  it  was  the  last  documentary  shot  on  them.
 Regards
 Kaushik

We  used  to  see  them  a  lot  (early  mornings)  in  Hoogly  river  (Calcutta)  till  about  10  years  back!  This  winter  will  try  and  spot  them  again.  Will  try  and  go  to  Sunderbans  too  to  spot  them  if  possible.  More  mention  of  them  and  their  cousins,  the  Irrawady  dolphins,  in  The  Hungry  Tide  (Amitava  Ghosh).  By  the  way,  I  had  once,  many  years  ago,  spotted  a  Kamot  (local  for  Bull  Shark)  near  Diamond  Harbour!

Still  Kamot  is  seen  in  Sunderban  areas  and  biting  the  limbs  of  the  poor  fisherman’s  usually  goes  there  for  prawn  catching.
Sir  one  more   question,  did  you  studied  the  mangrove  forest  in  Sunderban  areas  because  I'm  very  much  interest  to  know  about  the  biotopes  of  Sunderban  Areas.
 Regards
 Kaushik
