 7"  of  water  is  too  shallow  for  gold  fish

 How  do  you  monitor  the  temperature  of  water?

 The  height  of  the  pond,  yes  it  was  an  area  of  concern  for  me  too...
 From  what  I  gathered,  over  the  net   goldfish  natural  habitan  includes  shallow  waters  hence  I  went  for  it...till  now  they  seem  to  be  doing  quite  well,  well  settled,  coloration  has  improved  since  I  got  them.  Could  you  please  elaborate  more  on  your  concerns,  I  would  be  thankful.

 Temp.  at  the  moment  I  am  only  monitoring  the  ambient  temperature  and  plan  to  get  a  thermo  soon,  looking  for  an  electronic  variety...
 Is  there  a  connection  between  your  observation  and  the  thermo  question?

 You  will  loose  a  lot  of  water  in  summer  due  to  evoporation,  Temperature  fluctuation  also  will  be  an  issue.

 hi,

 mk  is  right  regarding  the  evaporation  in  summer.

 you  can  always  add  floating  plants  like  water  cabbage,  daphnia,  etc  etc
 which  will  also  look  good,  do  nto  add  plant  whose  root  grow  faster  and  huge

 regards

 live  bearers  would  be  a  better  option  of  this  pond  than  goldfish.
 7"  is  too  less  for  goldfish,  they  need  deeper  water.
 Further  due  to  lesser  depth  your  pond  will  heat  up  and  cool  too  soon.
 Pls  keep  this  in  mind.

 Dear  Matsya
 Think  about  the  algae  control  mechanisms.  Sooner  or  later  it  will  trouble  you.  Thumb Up

 Thanks  for  your  suggestions  and  concerns

 I  am  on  the  lookout  of  a  better  solution  that  is  both  durable  and  aesthetically  pleasing,  what  I  have  been  able  to  think  of  is  a  fibreglass  pool  which  seems  to  be  easily  available  in  the  US   but  have  not  found  anything  in  India  as  yet   I  am  looking  for  something  like  this

 http://www.evl.uic.edu/aej/pond/index.html   (go  to  the  middle  of  the  page)

 If  anyone  can  guide  me  on  this  I  would  be  grateful

 @Dr  Kaushik,  yes  I  am  keeping  my  fingers  crossed...hoping  that  DIFFUSED  sunlight  would  somehow  help  but  if  does  not...I'll  come  back  to  IAH  for  ideas   Smile

 @Dan
 Thanks  for  the  suggestion,  yes  I  am  looking  for  floating  plants  too,  your  suggestion  to  look  for  floating  plants  with  short  roots  is  a  good  one.  Had  water  sprite  in  mind,  will  it  fit  the  bill,  does  it  have  short  roots?

 @sandeep

 Would  rather  change  the  pond  than  the  fish  Smile  .
 But,  by  the  way,  talking  of  live  bearers,  which  would  you  suggest  for  a  pond,  keeping  in  mind  the  top-down  view?

 Hi

 added  four  more  gold  yesterday  now  my  fish  target  is  complete.  Total  6  gold  fish.  Water  volume  114  gallon.
 Plants  are  growing  really  slow..low  light...in  terms  of  scaping  added  an  island.
