Hello to all the Senior Members,
I need some advice on the alternative food for newborn Discus Fry - before which I'll quickly gve a brief idea of the scenario:
Since my discus pairs were eating the eggs earlier (had mentioned the same in one of my earlier post's) and this seemed unending...(
Hence, this time, I worked another option - when the parents started eating the eggs (fortunately I was around at that time), I introduced an acrylic shield. In about 4-5 hrs, after that, the eggs hatched.
Then I let them be in the tank for around a day and then sucked them into a small container till they were free swimming - 2 days time span....
EVERYTHING WAS FINE TILL THEN,
In the meanwhile, I purchased SK Brand Artemia Cysts and tried hatching the same. To my utter despair, none of them hatched (all proper precautions taken, like adding salt, aeration, light, etc). I was told that the container should've been stored in the fridge all along - but when the dealer gave it to me, it was from the shelf. No cooling. When checked with him, he said - we give it in this manner only.
Now, the questions:
1 - Do we need to buy cold stored Artemia? If yes, where can we get the same in Pune?(whichever dealers, I checked, all of them have put the same on the shelf for display and not in the fridge)
2 - If the same was not freezed earlier, will the later freezing help (which I doubt)?
3 - What can be the alternative for Artemia - as I'm fearing that if i introduce the same to the parents, again, they may eat the fry.
As on date, all the hatched fry batch has died - there were around 70-80 of them, which I had pulled out.
Also I would request the experienced members to enlighten on the process of artificial breeding, after the eggs hatch
Thanking you in anticipation

@bobbypune hey mate i have been using the same brand the SK company eggs and have had success hatching them after loads of try and since then i have always hatched the eggs in around 90% from where did u buy those eggs and though i never stored them in frigde
so the conclusion is SK BBS works gr8 now for me so can they for u
and the alternative is hikari first bites though the won't help in fast growth of the fry

I would encourage you to let the pair carry the fries eventhough they might have eaten them a few times. It will save you alot of hassle and beauty of parents and fries moving together will be much appreciated.
I can see that you are trying to artifically raise them. Brineshrimp is too big for them, especially 2 day old fries.. Boiled Egg yolk fed in tiny bits will do the trick though I have never tried them as i use foster pairs when i encounter difficult pairs. But artifical raising is another art which experts can share here.

At what temperature had u kept your hatching container? this is winter time.. cool water will fail the hatching. The light is for increasing the temperature only. So if your lights are CFL or PLs it wont work. Suggestion is to use normal tungsten filament bulbs..
