 Hi  Guys,

Im  interested  in  starting  a  FO  marine  tank.  Currently  I  have  two  fresh  water  tank  4X2X2,  which  are  running  fine  from  last  four  years.  I  have  one  4x2x2  &  one  2x1x1  tank  in  spare,  which  I  want  to  use  for  marine  setup.
Problem  is  that  I  m  in  Delhi  and  I  haven’t  find  any  shop  here  which  sells  marine  fish  or  accessories  which  is  the  main  problem  for  me  in  delaying  my  setup.
I  need  the  shop  name  and  address,  which  sell  marine  fish.  Can  anybody  help  me  with  my  problem?
Please  advice  is  Temperature  of  Delhi  is  right  for  setting  a  marine  tank,  as  I  don’t  have  AC  installed  in  my  house.

 Thanks  in  Advance
 Wolfgang

 Hello  Wolfgang,

I  am  not  very  sure  about  LFS  that  stock  Marine  fish  in  New  Delhi  but  you  can  get  some  varieties  from  hobbyists  in  this  forum.

Marine  tanks  need  to  be  maintained  at  a  constant  temparature  of  26  -  27  Deg  C.  You'll  need  a  chiller  for  the  summers  in  Delhi  and  heaters  for  the  winter.  Take  the  cost/availability  of  these  into  account  before  you  decide  on  a  Marine  tank.

Chillers  are  available  in  Chennai  and  sending  them  across  to  you  should  not  be  a  problem.

Dude!  U  can  use  the  smaller  tank  as  a  sump!  That  will  give  u  some  extra  water  as  well  as  water  circulation.  For  the  sump  details  u  can  PM  RAJEEV  from  this  forum!  He  is  really  good  with  the  sump  concept!

No,  you  cannot  use  common  salt...you  will  need  to  purchase  a  marine  salt  mix.  Plan  on  approximately  30g  of  salt  per  liter  of  water.

For  a  4x2x2  tank  =  ~400  liters,  you  will  need  about  12000  grams  or  12kg  of  salt  mix.  The  cost  of  the  mix  varies  locally,  so  you  will  have  to  find  out  the  cost  in  Delhi...You  will  also  need  to  purchase  more  salt  everytime  you  perform  a  water  change.

Also  factor  in  the  cost  of  pumps,  powerheads,  filters,  lights  etc.

 Hi  Wolfgang
I  am  happy  to  see  more  Delhites  joining  IAH.  Which  part  of  Delhi  are  you  from
You  can  visit  Fishpoint  in  Sarojni  Nagar  for  Marine  fish.  He  has  a  couple  of  marine  display  tanks.
Other  major  LFS  I  visit  can  arrange  marine  fish  for  you  but  don't  have  dedicated  marine  tanks.
One  more  name  I  can  think  of  is  Bengal  Aqaurium  near  Karol  Bagh.  Contact  Raja  at  9811703036.  He  has  recently  set  up  a  marine  tank.
Also  you  can  get  in  touch  with  Shukla  at  India  gate  and  Daryaganj.  I  am  sure  he  can  arrange  marine  fish  for  you.
Sea  world  aquarium  at  Daryaganj  no  longer  has  any  marine  tanks  but  again  he  can  get  the  fish  for  you/Phone  number  is  011-23268465
 Hope  this  information  helps  you.
 All  the  best

I  would  suggest  a  Sand  bed  of  minimum  4"  and  advisable  6".  This  will  help  the  bacteria!

You  should  go  in  for  a  canister  filter  as  well.  This  will  keep  your  Aquarium  clean  as  well  as  maintain  a  colony  of  GOOD  bactaria  for  you.

With  this  in  place,  you  can  compromise  on  the  sand  layer,  which  will  be  ok  if  it  were  even  3  inches.
