Tarun, check the article on import formalities, on the Home page.
Hand carry has always been possible for a few. |

Are there any restritions in transporting fish within India from one place to another by flight or trains? |

Can't guess what problem does the cargo have, to accept it. Please elaborate the carrier and package details.
PS: They sometimes reject livestock, if the packaging is not to their satisfaction. |

I was just curious that's all. I might travel to calcutta for a friends wedding next month, so i thought may be i could get some fish not found here. How about trains? Do they object to carrying live fish? |

i tried for the same in kingfisher airlines from kolkata to bangalore....they said not allowed......they were apprehensive about driftwood as well..
yep trains are fine as long as the TTE or anyone else (because some people have this knack for creating problems for others) do not know about it. i got my Betta from Delhi(i was studying there) to kolkata in a 2 litre bottle.......all covered so the water doesnot gets cold...... recently i had a friend bring three driftwoods from kolkata to bangalore....but again it is advisable to do this in a way as to draw no attention....
if someone brings a big fish then i think Calcutta to Bangalore will be not easy as it is 36 hrs journey....and the oxygen will be not enough....small fish are o.k with it, if the packs are not too overcrowded... |

Tarun, if we want to import fish in a legal way, we have to go through all the rules and regulations. We have a very nice article on home regarding the same. But I think, just for hobby porpuse you can hand carry few fishes from anywhere.
But yes.... this is India... so everything is possible if you have contacts. |

That's not allowed as a hand-baggage. Liquids they prohibit, nowadays. Book it as a parcel, with their cargo services. They won't deny. |

I had brought a Few Rasboras and Corydoras in my Check in Luggage from Mumbai in Sep 2008. I just packed them in a Thermacol box so that they didn’t get cold.
I had told the airline people that I have it, they didn’t raise an objection. The security didn’t see it in the X Ray probably.
But I am not sure what the official stand is |
