Nice video. Are such kits available in India? would like to buy them
I know a snake bite case, where a person sucked the blood of the victim, through the wound. The 'sucker' himself had 2-3 oral injuries, and he also had to undergo anti-venom doses.

I work for a Company that employs a lot of people daily in rubber and tea plantations and we have to deal with snake bites of various types on a regular basis. The victims are rushed to the hospitals together with the snake( captured / killed) that was resposible for the bite. Most of the people spend a couple of days in the hospital and return without much of a serious problem.
I am sure these kits if available in India will help in providing quality first aid to the snake bite victims rather than resorting to biting and cutting with a blade to bleed the victim. I would like to buy a few kits if somebody can tell me where i can get the same in India.

@chinkz, Don't know about snake handlers but sure would be good for campers.
@alpha91 and ramsarma1972, I'm not sure if such kits are available in India. There could be a possible Chinese make (wouldn't be surprised, lol). You guys can check out the following link where they have the same product for sale. It's called the Sawyer Extractor Snake Bite Kit.

They forgot to mention the fact that these extractors can play hell with cytotoxic or haemotoxic bites.
And with 2 out of the big four dangerous snakes in this country being viper's, we'd need to keep that in mind.
Best thing to do - take enough precautions to make sure you don't get bitten, and even if you do, make sure you know where the closest hospital is.

A couple of people I know have the Sawyer extractor and even antivenin.
However, their advice and I believe it is sound is to skip all this DIY doctoring unless you are in a remote place with no access to medical facilities. Rush straight to the nearest "government" hospital - they are more likely to know how to deal with snakebite and have the equipment/antivenin available. Private hospitals/your friendly local physician is not likely to be of help and will most likely direct you to a government hospital.
If you like playing with snakes - find out beforehand which hospital in your locality stocks anti-venin. Rather than trying to capture the snake that bit you - just make sure you get a good look at it. Many people get bitten trying to kill snakes.
Snakebites in most urban/village areas are likely to happen from a couple of common snakes -just browse the internet to see what they look like. Apart from the cobra which resembles a non-venomous rat snake, the others are quite distinctive looking.
If you like snakes, enjoy them...from a distance...

well snake reminds me of some chewy food way back when i did my commando training.
I used to catch snakes bare hand and cook them. Never thought of snake bite.
we were told that when ever you get a snake bite put ice ASAP and we were made to identify a herb(dont recollect the name)which we used to chew and put on the bite and rush to the nearest hospital

Well...this is what I call "using the topic literally"
From "Venemous Snake Bite" we have moved all the way to "Venemous Snake" Bite...
Captain, if you tried eating the snake raw, you could have tried both... "Snake Bite" and "Snake" bite
Just kidding... recently I saw a program where they showcased a guy in the western Ghats who is able to cure a snake bite by his kind of praying where the person who is bitten or his relative calls him up and informs him of the bite and he can visit this guy in a couple of days for further treatment. Lot of people claim it works and the best part of all is, he does not accept money at any cost for this treatment (Is already a wealthy man)
All can keep his number handy, in case you dont mind believing such things or check which is your closet hospital (and a list if you are on a fishy trip)
Captain, do share your recepi for the benefit of our other members (I am a vegeterian you see )
