 No  offense  to  anyone.

The  standard  of  the  hobby,  the  LFS  and  the  aquarists  are  generally  very  low  in  Delhi.

The  LFS  will  upgrade  himself  and  his  staff  in  double  quick  time  if  you  have  several  informed  and  knowledgeable  aquarists.

The  hobbyist  is  the  engine  which  triggers  the  LFS  and  the  other  sellers  to  get  new  products  from  the  world  market.

 He  creates  the  demand.

So  you  have  only  yourself  to  blame  if  you  have  dumb,  uninformed  sellers  and  no  good  products  in  your  city.
 Just  my  humble  opinion.

At  least  Adip  has  created  a  opening  for  ADA  products  in  Delhi.   Thumb Up

The  local  ADA  seller  was  responsible  for  not  keeping  enough  products  and  specifically  one  of  the  right  substrate  for  the  demo  show  tank.

 Trevor,

Your  observation  may  not  be  entirely  correct.  Some  new  LFS's  opening  in  Delhi  are  testament  to  that  fact.  As  regards  the  standards  of  hobbyists,  I  am  only  6  months  old  in  this  hobby  but  from  what  I  have  seen  its  pretty  good.

No  offence  taken  by  me  as  I  am  a  newbie...about  others...I'm  not  so  sure..  Shocked

ADA  substrates  are  now  available  in  Delhi  through  non-adip  sources  as  well.  That  wouldn't  have  happened  if  sellers  were  not  getting  educated  by  the  hobbyists.  In  fact  the  quality  of  stuff  in  general,  driftwoods,  tanks,  filters,  dry  goods,  livestock  etc  are  way  better  that  in  the  past.  In  fact  in  the  last  4-6  months  that  I  have  been  in  the  hobby  the  Q  factor  has  gone  up  leaps  and  bounds!  My  local  LFS  has  bought  three  adjacent  shops  in  the  last  4  months  to  expand!  Thanks  in  part  to  me  i  guess...  Thumb Up

Yes  the  penetration  of  the  hobby  in  Delhi  from  a  true  'hobbyist  standard'  may  not  be  as  high  as  say  Chennai  but  its  not  that  bad.

I'll  post  a  video  of  my  local  LFS  shortly.

 Cheers....Ravi

Not  at  all  agree  with  you  here.  Yes....  before  starting  ACD  (Aquarium  Club  Delhi)  we  were  also  unaware  about  the  quality  of  hobbyiests  here  in  Delhi.  But  now  it's  visible  that,  there  are  so  many  hobbyiests  who  are  really  experienced  and  masters  of  a  specific  kind  of  setup  and  prominet  figures  in  International  forums  too  for  their  knowledge.  Examples,  Nirav  (Marine),  Arnav  (Marine  and  cichlids  and  fish  breeding),  Nishant  (Cichlids  and  Mosterfish  keeping)  And  Sujoy  the  master  of  fishkeeping.  They  are  just  the  tip  of  the  iceberg  and  there  are  numbers  of  such  great  aquarists  who  are  not  netigen  or  not  members  of  IAH.  We  don't  know  about  them  cause  they  are  not  visible.  And  being  honest,  due  to  the  extream  weather,  Delhi  guys  are  on  back  foot  for  planted  tanks  but  it  is  coming  up  very  fast.

I  would  request  you  not  to  comment  on  those  matters  where  you  don't  have  the  actual/enough  information.  Try  to  interact  with  the  Delhi  aquarists,  you  will  get  to  know  the  quality  of  the  hobby  here.

Agree  with  you.  But  in  todays  world  that  can  hardly  make  any  difference  to  a  serious  aquarist.  If  we  don't  get  our  required  stuff  here,  we  are  reaching  out  to  different  part  of  India  as  well  as  world  as  a  group.

Tarun  is  the  first  Hobbyiest,  who  entered  into  business  just  for  the  improvement  of  our  hobby.  But  99%  of  Delhi  LFS  started  business  without  knowing  the  basics  of  fish  keeping  and  they  are  still  not  ready  to  accept  the  the  help  or  opinion  from  a  hobbyiest  group.

If  the  Delhi  dealer  want  to  start  selling  ADA  products,  without  knowing  the  speciality  of  it,  I  would  say,  he  is  just  about  to  ruin  himself.  A  lily  Pipe  or  a  bag  Of  aquasoil  is  nothing  but  a  glass  pipe  or  a  bag  of  clay  to  a  general  customer.  Untill  unless  he  is  taking  the  responsibility  to  educate  his  customers,  no  one  can  help  him.  Do  business  on  that  what  you  like  to  do.  The  'bread  &  butter'  concept  can't  be  applied  everywhere.

Adip  is  a  single  normal  human  being.  So  if  the  sub  delears  don't  want  to  learn  things  and  just  upto  mint  money  out  of  ADA  products,  I  would  say  Mr.  Amano  also  will  not  be  able  to  change  the  fate  of  those  LFS.  A  display  tank  is  the  impression  of  the  whole  product  range,  so  it  has  to  be  perfect.  If  you  can't  do  it,  stay  away  from  it.  Negetive  marketing  is  worst  than  No  Marketing.

The  local  ADA  seller  was  responsible  for  not  keeping  enough  products  and  specifically  one  of  the  right  substrate  for  the  demo  show  tank.

Unfortunately  the  Distributors  of  the  products  do  not  pass  enough  techinical  expertise  to  their  local  sellers.  Do  not  blame  the  local  ADA  seller  cause  if  that  was  the  case,  the  distributor  should  not  have  stood  there.  He  should  have  let  his  DUMB  local  seller  handle  the  Trade  fair  by  himself.

Its  tough  to  realize  that  a  brand  like  ADA  would  appoint  a  local  seller  who  is  dumb  and  not  well  educated  on  the  product.  I  see  that  as  a  gross  mistake  of  the  company  cause  if  your  customer  facing  side  isnt  well  prepared  all  you  are  selling  is  peice  of  dirt.

Unfortunately  Trevor  we  arent  able  to  distinguish  between  friendship  and  business  it  seems.  Adip  is  a  great  friend  and  a  respected  hobyist,  however  he  is  also  a  business  man  who  needs  to  spend  enough  time  with  his  frontend  sellers  about  the  products  and  right  methods  of  display.

So  its  a  nice  escape  tactic  trevor  to  blame  the  hobbyist  to  protect  the  brand,  fortunately  Aquarist  in  Delhi  are  smart  enough  to  figure  things  out.

*No  offense  meant  to  anyone  in  person

 Cheers

And  just  to  add  to  my  above  comment,   Adip  went  to  Japan  to  undergo  a  massive  training  program  just  to  know  the  products  well  and  the  aquascaping  techniques.  Just  like  that,  I  would  suggest  Adip  to  make  those  sub  delears  educate  enough  so  that  they  know  what  actually  they  are  selling.

@Ravi....  yes...  agree  with  you.  Couple  of  LFS  are  coming  up  to  help  the  local  aquarists  with  different  products.  Couple  of  months  back  Bhaskar  imported  a  Brunchy  driftwood  from  USA  spending  a  fortune  to  use  it  in  his  tank.  Now  the  same  thing  is  available  here  in  Big  Fish,  Gurgaon  at  1/5th  price.  But  as  it's  just  started,  it  will  take  time  to  reach  the  level  of  Chennai/Banglore/Kolkata.

Please  enjoy  the  photojournal  that  Tirtha  has  posted  and  do  post  comments  on  it.
ADA  Marketing/Professionalism  discussion  can  be  taken  elsewhere  and  better  still  mail/call  the  ADA  dealer  with  your  feedback.  I'm  sure  they  are  ready  to  listen.
Unfortunately  im  sure  this  is  going  to  end  up  in  a  thread  where  everybody  takes  'Offense'.
Please  be  sensitive  to  this  before  posting  any  further  in  this  thread.

Excellent  journal  Tirth.  Sorry  about  your  car.
I  am  a  Delhite  partly  too  since  I  spent  the  first  18  years  of  my  life  in  Delhi.  I  also  started  my  hobby  in  Delhi  (I  was  12  then)  and  I  remember  how  I  used  to  take  a  bus  to  canought  place  (from  janak  puri)  and  then  a  phatphati  to  dariya  ganj  to  buy  fishes.  The  only  LFS  back  then  used  to  be  in  dariya  ganj  and  one  near  India  Gate.  Those  were  some  desperate   Smile  times.
