They  look  so  much  like  RBPs  when  they  are  tiny,  its  hard  to  tell  them  apart  when  they  are  small.

 Look  at  the  lower  jaw.

Thanks  Rahul.  Telling  mature/adults  apart  is  a  piece  of  cake.  Juveniles  are  a  completely  different  ballgame.  When  they  are  tiny,  neither  their  jaws  nor  their  teeth  are  apparent  enough  to  distinguish  them  from  RBPs.   Smile

Deejay  even  though  you  are  giving  them  away  for  free,  i  serious  doubt  any  LFS  chappie  will  come  to  your  house  for  the  pacus,  unless  of  course  if  you're  related  to  the  owner  or  are  going  around  with  his  daughter.  it's  time  to  face  reality  champ.  i  suggest  you  bag  them  and  take  them  to  the  shaikh  brothers  in  Bandra.  they  dont  refuse  anything,  i've  given  them  quite  a  few  fish.  they  probably  just  might  give  you  something  of  a  lesser  value  in  exchange.

 cheers  Sid

Its  really  easy  to  tell  the  differance  betweek  RBP  and  Pacus  at  any  stage...

OK  that  sounds  like  the  best  suggestion  so  far  Sid.  I  will  go  and  meet  the  Shaikh  brothers  this  weekend  and  show  them  the  video  of  my  Pacus  (heading  to  Blue  Frog  tonight.  Women  and  drinks  first,  fish  can  take  a  backseat  lol!     Drinking   )  .

The  very  least  they  can  do  is  give  me  a  bag  large  enough  to  house  these  two  freaks  for  the  15  min  journey  from  my  place.  The  only  bag  i  can  think  of  available  at  home  is  the  one  we  use  to  take  out  the  trash.  Lets  hope  it  all  goes  as  planned.  I  will  keep  everyone  posted  on  how  it  goes!  I  am  shit  scared  of  fishing  these  monsters  out  though,  which  is  why  i  was  hoping  an  LFS  guy  could  do  it  for  me!

The  last  time  i  fished  these  guys  out  of  their  tank  was  like  6  months  ago  (they  were  much  smaller  then)  but  still  managed  to  cause  considerable  chaos  (there  was  water  all  over  my  room)  and  my  heart  was  beating  so  fast  i  felt  like  passing  out   Surprised   I  bet  anyone  who  has  tried  to  fish  a  large  Pacu  out  of  a  tank  will  never  forget  the  experience  for  a  lifetime.  The  fish  kick  serious  butt   Rock On

PS  :  @  Sid:  Going  out  with  the  LFS  guy's  daughter  sounds  like  a  good  option.  Free  supply  of  Blood  Worms  and  juveniles  for  life!!   Thumbs Up      ROFL

Hi  GatorX.  Replied  to  your  PM  and  also  updated  this  thread  with  a  video.  Why  would  you  classify  Sweet  Home  Aquarium  as  the  worst  to  giveaway  fish  to?  Can  you  please  share  the  reason  with  us?  Do  let  me  know  if  you  have  a  better  option.  I  am  all  ears.     Smile

Regarding  telling  juveniles  apart,  may  be  to  an  experienced  eye  it  would  be  easy.  For  an  amateur  like  me,  its  not     Sad

With  all  due  respect  Abhi,  i  totally  understand  your  sensitivity  and  attachment  towards  the  fish  you  keep.  However,  i  would  tend  to  agreed  with  what  headbanger  here  has  said  about  not  releasing  fish  into  the  wild.

Now  since  we  are  comparing  fish  to  children  here,  for  the  sake  of  continuing  the  same  comparison:  If  your  offspring  carried  the  AIDS  virus,  would  you  willing  let  it  get  married  and  spread  the  disease  to  others?  I  think  not!

Much  in  the  same  way,  "humanely"  killing  a  large  fish  that  you  cannot  keep  would  help  preserve  the  lives  of  natives  as  well  as  the  ecosystem  of  the  wild  you  intend  releasing  it  into.  Think  of  it  as  a  doctor  performing  surgery  to  cut  off  a  gangrenous  foot.  Would  anyone  want  to  chop  off  a  man's  feet?  i  think  not!  But  if  it  saves  his  life,  why  not?

I  could  certainly  use  your  help.  For  starters,  i  bought  a  king  sized  net  from  an  LFS  but  i  don't  think  its  enough  to  accommodate  the  15  inch  beast.  Any  help  you  can  provide  would  be  most  appreciated.

Why  did  you  buy  a  net..?   Never  use  a  net  for  a  fish  more  than  12"...

And  if  you  want  to  release  it..  Bandra  Talao  is  the  best  place..  It  won't  affect  the  native  species..

A  friend  of  mine  had  also  released  a  pair  of  RES  in  there...

I  have  never  slaughtered  a  live  fish  and  certainly  don't  intend  on  doing  so  either.  I  am  a  fish  lover  just  like  yourself  with  a  lot  of  respect  and  admiration  for  these  fine  creatures.  The  only  point  i  am  trying  to  make  here  is  that  releasing  an  aquarium  bred  fish  into  the  wild  would  be  far  more  cruel  than  putting  it  to  death  yourself.

And  if  you  want  to  release  it..  Bandra  Talao  is  the  best  place..  It  won't  affect  the  native  species..

A  friend  of  mine  had  also  released  a  pair  of  RES  in  there...

That  sounds  like  a  feasible  idea  ...  The  talao  is  a  man  made  waterbody  right?  So  i  guess  there  wouldn't  be  too  many  natives  in  there  in  the  first  place?  Someone  please  confirm  this?

But  how  do  you  get  into  the  talao?  Do  you  just  toss  the  bloody  thing  over  the  fencing?     ROFL
