Soaking  AC  in  a  concentrated  solution  of  nutrients  should  make  it  adsorb  the  nutrients.  Use  this  as  the  lowest  level  substrate.

Due  to  its  properties  AC  will  remove  impurities  or  pollutants  from  the  tank  by  adsorbing  it  onto  its  surface.  similarly  AC  will  hold  the  micro  nutrients.  these  can  then  be  used  by  the  roots  of  plants.  it  mearly  removes  the  impurities  from  the  water  column  but  does  not  make  it  unavailable  to  the  roots.

Well  well  the  beamer  came  but  not  from  gokul   ROFL

On  a  serious  note,  would  this  set  up  require  carbon  addition  or  will  it  be  able  to  go  te  low  tech  way  ?

Which  setup,  the  one  with  Activated  carbon?

I  don't  even  want  to  speculate.  I  wonder  why  people  have  not  been  trying  this  in  agriculture.
Don't  tell  me  slash  and  burn  is  the  same  thing  as  "loading"  AC.
We  should  then  burn  garbage  and  use  that  as  the  lowest  substrate  layer.

Preetham  you  should  try  the  AC  postulate  in  your  tank  and  give  us  the  results.

CO2  enrichment  of  water  column  is  still  the  best  IMO  as  the  plant  expends  least  energy  getting  Carbon  from  CO2.

Never  Madan.  I  appreciate  yours  and  Trevor's  pioneering  work  in  India  on  planted  tanks   Bow  .  How  can  I  ever  throw  a  bouncer  at  the  Guru.

PS:  Another  thought  occurred  to  me.   Idea   AC  can  be  made  to  absorb  the  required  nutrients  and  can  be  used  as  root  tabs?  Probably  coated  with  clay  and  dried  to  prevent  sudden  leaching?

 Zinc  Sulphate
 Zinc  EDTA
 Magnesium  Sulphate
 Magnesium  EDTA
 Manganese  Sulphate
 Manganese  EDTA
 Boric  Acid
 Borax  Decahydrate
 Disodium  Octaborate  Tetrahydrate
Very  Very  Very  small  amount  of  Copper  Sulphate
 Very  Small  qty  of  EDTA
Very  small  Qty  of  Citric  Acid
Very  Very  small  Qty  of  Pot  Nitrate
 Humic  Acid
 Fulvic  Acid

Will  post  the  Exact  Qty  Later  for  the  Mix.
Works  like  a  charm  in  fresh-water......

Another  thing  ...  I  know  some  of  u  guys  are  very  very  experienced  ......  but  ......
Pl  do  rem  1  thing  ...  most  nutrient  absorption  in  plants  is  happening  throughout  the  entire  visible  surface  ....
Meaning  ....  except  for  the  basics  such  as  -  areation,  drainage,  poricity,  texture  ....  nothing  else  really  matters  for  the  substrate  -  well  for  plants  anyways  .....
