hey people...
I devised a new method for generating CO2.
I drew inspiration from a glass of sprite on the table while lunching with my wife.
I took a 500ml pet bottle of plain soda, peirced the cap in the middle with the sewing needle and placed the bottle in my planted tank..
lo and behold.. there was an amazing amount of CO2 oozing out for nearly 24 hours ..but quite an effort went into keeping the bottle low in the tank.. as it has a tendency to surface up.. hope this works.. wish me luck and i would appreciate some feedback on this technique which i would like to call "Pramods Genie in the Bottle (PGB for short)...
this is much LESS clumsier than having to use a CO2 cylinder for the purpose .. and maybe you could do it once a week with water change.. |

CO2 at Rs. 15/- per day isnt cheap. And what about the contents of Sprite being dissolved in the tank?? |

15/ per day comes out to 5,475 per annum.
Save Rs 15/- per day and get a pressurised kit at the end of the year. |

| Well DIY works 3-4 times, then you get frustrated and go with pressurised co2. nobody listenes the first time, that includes me. You can as well pour the soda in. I think there is something in aqua journal about amano using soda.... |

Pramod, really nice idea. But I will appreciate, if you please start the experiment by yourself and come up with the result.
I would suggest to go for a 3 feet tank with 3WPG light, Lots of Fertilizer, lots of fast grower plants. Use this CO2 method in that tank and post the result here in IAH after 2-3 months.
I will love to use this method in my smaller tanks after seeing your result.
All the best. |

Hey Pramod
This concept is not new, Amano initially used to add Soda to the tanks and even he gave up because it turned out to be too expensive. Thats when he set off to make an automated CO2 system. |

| Normal DIY Co2 will cost around Rs.15 for about 10 to 15 days. 1/2 Kg sugar and yeast will definitely cost less than Rs. 15 and definitely you will not need 1/2 Kgs sugar too. So use of soda definitely may not be cost effective and by your own admitance its quite difficult to keep the bottle stable inside the tank. It maybe amusing to try it out but i guess may not serve the purpose in the long run!!!! |
